Imiproving 3pt %

I was looking at the stats for out 3pt shooting. Interestingly, when we take one player's 3pt shooting out of the equation, as a team we are shooting 39% from 3. RDM is shooting 26% from 3 (what JO shot last year) and yet has taken the most 3s (23) by far on the team. Jok is next with 16 3s taken but both he and Marble have made 6 of them. I'm getting the impression when watching Dev that he's looking for 3s (trying to prove something?) as opposed to taking them because that's what the D is giving him. IF he was a little more selective, our shooting percentages could go up markedly. But will he do that? What do you think?

I would like to see RDM take about 3 a game to keep the defense honest and set up the rest of his game. I'm hoping he will make 1 out of 3 which is adequate when considering what it will open up for driving, kicking out, passing, etc. I think he will scale it back as the competition takes a step up...can't afford to work on his shot in game when he could do other things better. This is just my best guess and hope.

I am not sold that our 3-point shooting is much improved just yet. The competition level will be ramping up soon so we shall see.

The easiest way to improve 3 pt. % is to have a formidable inside game, it creates a ton of space for the guards and wide open shots because teams have to double. The other way is to have players that can go to the basket and actually pass it out.

Iowa struggles in those two areas; that said, I think Uthoff can solve one of those issues. If Iowa can't do either, then ball movement is key.

I've seen every game so far this year and I can't remember even one 3-pointer that Dev took that I thought was forced. He just isn't that good of a long range shooter. Would love to see more "Oregon" type nights out of him, but suspect it just isn't in the cards.

If Hawks hit at least 35% this year from 3, they can play with anyone in the nation. They were close to that point at end of last season, but the awful three point shooting held us back.

It's not that we take bad shots. We just miss way to many wide open 3's.

I agree with this, and as far as another poster's comment about Marble, I don't see him as a consistent threat. He is streaky, while we can't depend on an Oregon type night every outing, we can depend on him going all Oregon once in a while, hopefully it happens when we really need it.
