was on display yesterday and today in their Class 3A and 4A state tourny.

I watched parts of these games:

Hillcrest over Champaign Central....Drake recruit Rayvonte Rice on Champaign had an ok day...ended up with 20 but they lost the game. Kid will be a player for Drake.

Simeon over Fallon: Dayton recruit Brandon Spearmon came up big to lead Simeon to the title game. Player to watch? Frosh starter Jabari Parker,a 6'6'' 200lb small forward....his dad is chicago playground and nba legend Sonny Parker. First player to ever start at Simeon as a frosh..not even Derrick Rose or Nick Anderson could do that.

Whitney Young over Waukegan...yes, a re-match of last years title game in the semis..and Whitney pulled out this thriller by two points with a last second jumper hit by Ahmad Starks, the 5'10'' all state pg,who is headed to Oregon St. Starks is a little stud, who took over the game in the third quarter with 7 straight points, and made a tremendous move to get space to knock down the game winner. He is like Lew Jackson with a good outside shot. If Iowa hired Craig Robinson, would Starks come to Iowa:)

Richmond, the MacDonalds AA and Illini recruit, was saddled with foul trouble in the first half, but lit it up late in the game for Waukegan. He would look like he belonged on a Memphis or Ky type team..tall,quick and skilled.

Another frosh, Tommy Hamilton,6'10'',250lbs, starts for Whitney Young. His dad was 7'4'' ,350lbs+ coming out of HS,played at Illini and had a few years in the NBA. If the kid works hard on keeping his fitness, he will be a monster...good hands, good shooting touch, good passer.

Anthony Johnson on WY, Purdue signee, had a big game with 20 pts,and looked a bit stronger than in the past. At 6'4'' he is ready to replace Keaton Grant next year for the boilers.

Sam Thompson,WY,6'7'' jr,small forward is highly touted, and much coveted...would be nice if Iowa's new coach could get something going with Whitney Young. They are an assembly line of talent, and they stress academics very strongly. Good combo for college recruits.

Tonites game between Simeon and Whitney Young will be a real battle...

I know that Jereme had foul trouble, but couldn't you just see how he is OOZING with potential if he can get his head on straight?

I remember the King HS teams of the early 1990's. LOADED! They won around 60 consecutive games. That is pretty tough to do in Illinois.

Sonny Cox was their coach.

Tommy Hamilton's dad was on a team loaded with talent.

Two seven-footers in Rashard Griffith and Thomas Hamilton, an outstanding supporting cast with Michael Hermon, Jerrad Billingsley, DeWarren Stewart, Leonard Myles, Larry Allaway, Toporis Nash and Eddie Washington. All of the afore mentioned players were offered D1 scholarships.

The 1990 squad was loaded, too.

Griffith was a meer frosh then, but they had one of the best HS players in the nation on that team in Jamie Brandon. Who, if memory serves, went on to play for LSU and was on same Tiger squad as Chris Jackson (Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf) and Shaq. Other guys on that team were (forgive me for not mentioning the first names) Shariff (big time PG @ Pitt), Johnny Selvie (had a good college career).

That was fun hoops to watch as a youngster.

Still, the best HS player I have ever seen (out of Illinois and EVER) was Ronnie Fields.

Talk about a complete waste of his talent.

Amazing, amazing player.

He truly was the next Jordan.
