Breaking News: Klee: Jalen James, Illini part ways | IlliniHQ.com

From the article:

""Throughout the first two months of his tenure as the Illinois coach, John Groce has talked about “the right fit.”

He said the Illinois job was the right fit for him. It’s how he pieced together his staff and how he described his approach to finding players.

If nothing else, he is sticking to his word. The new Illinois staff decided Class of 2013 point guard Jalen James wasn’t the right fit for the Illini.

James, who committed to Bruce Weber’s staff, is no longer committed to Illinois after the Illini elected to part ways on Wednesday.

“There are no bad feelings at all. If you’ve got questions, it’s better to address them now rather than later,” said Illinois Wolves director Mike Mullins, who coaches James on the club circuit. “Coach Groce and Jamall (Walker) handled the situation forthrightly. Just like he’s picking his own staff, he reserves the right to pick the best players that fit what he wants to do.” . . .

Any chance Iowa tries to recruit this guy now?

Yeah because we have had such great luck with Illinois castoffs, Pierre Pierce wherefore art thou?

Am I reading that right? Groce decided to part ways with James? That is pretty odd IMO.

Welp, time to head over to the Illinois Scout Board to read the meltdown. I'm gonna guess there are a few boneheads who have convinced themselves that this developing situation means they are leading with Jabari Parker and will nab him for the 2013 class.

No. I have a feeling there is more to this story. There must be some reason Ill is cutting ties. Legal, moral, or ethical.
I think we are good at PG for a few years.

They're convinced that Groce let him go because he's not BoneG capable, and he needs the scholly for a better player.

Of course, he is the third commit to leave since Groce was hired. Add in his top assistant leaving after 2 months, and the the future looks bright for Coach John Groceliter.

You should go over there and post this.

And then I can read Harv tell you that you have no right to be critical of the Illini because you aint part of teh Illini Family.

Scout only has Colorado listed as another school with an offer and just 3 stars. Some of the stuff I have been reading it sounds like they are backing off the high ratings this kid originally had when first evaluated. He was not even a starter on his own AAU team.

......and the the future looks bright for Coach John Groceliter.

I don't care who you are, that's funny right there

They have been spoiled the last 10 years. Looks like things could really back fire for firing BW.

They have underachieved big time the last 10 years, with the exception of their run to the title game in 2004-2005.

How have they been spoiled?

Losing their top recruiter to Marquette only a month after he took the job is telling.
Groce is leaking oil right from the start.
James is a top 70 recruit....he gawn.
Malcolm Hill is a top 50 recruit....maybe he gawn.

Add Kendrick Nunn to that last as well. Some Illini posters are wondering if it will affect his recruitment.
