I tell you , reading some of your posts about not wanting to use a timeout, I wonder if some of you even watch the games.
I specifically watched the replay of the last 7+ minutes of the first half of the Illini game just to see how it turned bad.
The Illini started using a combination type 2-3 zone with some matchup type zone where sometimes they had 3 guys out on the perimeter depending on the hawk spacing.
If you watch again there was a huge hole in the zone in the lane from 10 feet to free throw line but the hawks hardly ever flashed to that point where they should have been able to get off a bunch of uncontested mid range jumpers. Instead
Fran and the coaches should have seen this and at one of the TV timeouts or even call a timeout to have them use that area as part of their motion. Instead the hawks kept pushing it into traffic for tough shots or turnovers.
Maybe the players dont adjust well and need to be told what to do sometimes. Alford's teams used to drive me nuts because it seemed alford never coached them how to adapt to different zone defenses.
