If you had to bet, who is our next coach?

I haven't come up with my choice just yet. Yes there are the "favorites", but let's be realistic. Our next head coach is not going to be Bruce Pearl, BJ Armstrong, the 2nd assistant coach to Bruce Pearl's Tennessee, etc. So if you had to bet your next paycheck on who the next coach is going to be, who would you pick?

From the few comments that we have heard from GB, he is going to do what is necessary to bring Iowa back on top. That being said, a program starts with the head coach, but most certainly does not end there. The staff is essential. I think that GB is going to have some influence on that choice(s).

My ideal setup would be a coach that is good as an X & O coach and is a good players coach/people person. Then surround him with very good assistants. That would require our picking up a coach that wouldn't cost you an arm and a leg, yet paying top dollar for a couple top assistants.
Say a Keno Davis as the HC, then maybe a Steve Forbes and a BJ Armstrong as your top dollar assistants. A staff like that would win for sure!!

I guess the question with that scenario would be how do you recruit the top assistants?? What would you have to pay for this group? $800k, plus major incentives, for the HC. Then $250k for each assistant? Is that enough?

Its a helluva dream but Steve Forbes is not going to leave an elite 8 program to come be an asst for Iowa. Also, BJ isnt giving up his current gig and lifestyle to be an asst.

When I said "a" Keno Davis, etc. That doesn't mean the literal, but an equivalent quality individual. As for Steve Forbes & BJ Armstrong the persons; Steve Forbes makes just over $100k, coming back home to a place he really loves, giving him the opportunity to put his stamp on a program rebuild and doubling his salary would speak volumes. BJ Armstrong might be a little more difficult of a situation, as he is the agent for Derrick Rose, that probably pays fairly well. Can he do both jobs? No idea.

So who is your pick for coach?

If I had to bet who our next coach would be...

I'd bet it's a mid-major coach who I won't like and/or never heard of.

Actually I think what you meant to say is that it would be a mid-major coach who you've never heard of so therefore you won't like them. Maybe YOU didn't mean that but there are many in here with that mindset. It's really a shame. I guess that's just the way it is now. No since giving a guy a chance until I see that he will win, until then I don't like him because I've never heard of him. That's a pretty shallow view.

Didn't say i wouldn't support him, just not excited about it.
And yes, I'm shallow.

Sounds like McCaffery's the guy...don't like it.
