Isaiah Trousil. Fastest sprinter in Iowa history. He could tie Tim Dwight for most decorated HS runner ever. Oh yeah he plays football too. He has a track scholly offer from Iowa, but is committed to UNI because he wants to play football. I will lose my shit if we don't offer this kid. Seriously WTF coaches? In your own backyard?

Hey man, awesome link!

I do agree we could use him just to at least go deep if his 40 time is accurate @ 4.39, but isn't it too late?

Fades, screens, drags, kick and punt returns. This kid is as gifted of a runner as this state has ever seen. I normally give our staff the benefit of doubt in recruiting, but this is appalling. I mean do they even go to track meets? Does this staff really not know what to do with speedsters? I am just at a flat out loss as to how this kid doesn't have a full ride offer from us. It's pitiful.

I don't know if there is a way or not. I hadn't thought about that senior's have already signed letters of intent. So I guess I am already losing my shit.

As long as UNI doesn't beat us in 2018 we'll be good. Man it is depressing I can't count on Kirk for an automatic win against an FCS squad.

His senior FB stats:
65 rushes, 360 yards (5.5 ypc), 2 TDs
14 rec, 279 yads (19.9 ypr), 2 TDs

As a junior:
88 rushes, 601 yds (6.8 ypc), 5 TDs
5 rec, 55 yds (11.0 ypr), 0 TDs

Minimal contributions as a returner either year.

As a junior he was playing as an edge-rusher, and he led his team in tackles for loss and sacks. As a senior it looks like he played DB, did not accumulate as many stats.

That is pretty modest production for small-class Iowa high school football. Which scholarship offer from this last class would you have liked withdrawn to go after this kid?

If you want to pine over a small town multisport athlete with an Iowa track offer, how about this kid. Give me 2800 yards rushing and 48 total TDs for a state runner up over 360 yards rushing and 4 total TDs for a team with a losing record.

He could scare the hell out of the other team during warm -ups. Just have him sprint on the sideline prior to the game.

Seems to me if you are really gifted athletically you will stand out in a small school on athletic prowess alone. Based on what I've ready he has not stood out.

I definitely see what you're saying. I don't fully disagree. The fact that the 5'10 170 pound kid played linebacker showes me the kid was probably not used correctly. It is possible that the young man's production was hampered by ineffective use of his skills at a position he actually projects to in college. He logged 22 career sacks and 45 TFL. That is nearly double Eppy's sack total and about 15 more TFL. So it's not like the kid wasn't doing things on the gridiron.

As to your questions. I don't know who I would have cut to make room for this kid. I'm not sure that we used all of our available scholarships anyways. I would have also made room for the kid that you mentioned. If I were running a team I would want to land 3-4 track champions a year. Some wouldn't pan out, but you really only need 1 on each side of the field. 1 at WR or RB and 1 at CB or safety. Imagine having a Wadley every season on both sides of the ball. Some seasons you would even end up with multiple playing together. This is part of why we get blown out by football programs with more athleticism. Power and physicality are great and I would never want to change that identity. That doesn't mean that we can't incorporate other skill sets to our skill position groups were speed might be the most important attribute. CB's and WR's.

Well we can beat up Iowa's staff all we want over this kid slipping through the cracks but it's not like anyone else was banging down his door either. As much as I'd like to have a kid that's just a step or two faster than everyone else he's gotta be a football player not just fast. I'm just guessing but maybe the coaches just didn't think he'd translate to the football field. Iowa's had little track guys before and they never made an impact. Paul Chaney comes to mind. So time will tell if he ends up being a David Johnson type of story or what

He didn't play on a very good team. He was just about all they had. I believe Isaiiah played hurt also. I think there was a coaching change in their also. Isaiah was at Iowa for a game or camp or something. Sorry I can't be more specific. One thing is sure.....he's fast and that's what Iowa is always lacking in. Why wouldn't Iowa want to take a chance with him? Seems to me they take a lot of risks and they don't all work out. Isaiah is from my hometown and I did see him play several times and he is fast.

Ya I know nobody else was beating down the door on him, but it is in our state. I also know that speed is not a guarantee for football success, but I do firmly believe that knowing how to make great football players out of sprinters is a necessity for the future of football success. We could have 500 strong, tough, hard working farm fed lineman. Can anyone of them play corner? Different positions emphasize different skill sets. From time to time it seems like Iowa's concern for strength and toughness bleed over a little to much into positions that finesse and grace are traditionally more suited. My best guess is Trousil's shoulder injury is what prevented him from getting more sniffs. My main gripe is that speed and agility are the rarest of all football skills and there was someone in our state that likely would have come to Iowa that possessed those rare skills and we didn't even take a chance. We waste scholarships every year on projects. Why not on this one?

I wouldn't be against Iowa thinking outside the box on recruiting skill guys. It's not like what they've been doing has worked very well lately... I bet your right that maybe his shoulder injury had a bit to do with it. Timmy D was as special of a player as there's been. There's a reason that not every 5'8 180ish lb track fast kid can play D1 football. Timmy wasn't just fast and tough. He was tenacious. He could have played defensive back or running back in college too. If it wasn't for Tavian Banks he may have played some RB. I'll be surprised if we ever see another player quite like him. We'll see how this new kid does up at UNI it'll be interesting.
