if we don't want lick then who do we get. Who will be good enough that will want to come to Iowa and coach. If we did then i would like to see a young and upcoming coach who is either coaching a mid major or assistant at a big time school.

Keno- Jury is still out. he has had 1 good year, and 1 ok year. i would like to see a little more.

drew- I just think iowa is a step down from Baylor IMO.

Wojo- I wouldnt mind seeing him. Dukes assistant. I didn't want to try and spell it. It would be nice to see the team slap the floor. i dont see Coach K leaving for awhile so it could be a chance.

theus- Maybe after tasting the NBA he wants to come back. I see he is an assistant with the Twolves.

I was just seeing who would we get and would we really be able to get someone that would be consider a splash and get things turned around in 2-3 years.

I agree with you on Keno, I would like to see a little more from him before concluding that he would be a great hire, but he is the sentimental favorite it seems, and the style of play would be much more entertaining.

I'm not sure I agree on Drew, and Iowa being a step down from Baylor. I know we stink right now, but since when has Baylor EVER been good at basketball? We have more hoops tradition than they have, even though we are getting further and further away from that time as I type this. Texas is a better recruiting ground, but he also doesn't have to compete with Texas for in-state recruits if he came to Iowa.

Greg Marshall is a name I've heard alot from Wichita St. Used to coach Winthrop and got them to the NCAA's in consecutive years and pulled an upset or two and supposedly has good recruiting ties from what I've heard.

There is a MSU assistant (Montgomery?) that I've heard alot about as well that could be good, if you're going to consider assistant coaches.

I wanted Theus when Alford left, but wonder how he would fit into the Iowa culture, but I'm sure he could recruit. We need a good recruiter, IMO.

I haven't thought alot about it, and I'm sure others keep up more with who is out there than I do.

I agree about Baylor. I just think right now he has them heading in the right direction and can get Texas's scraps and still have better players than what we have coming out of Iowa. I thought Marshall would do better things with Wichita St. then what he has. THey had a nice team and good couple years before he came in and I thought he would make them a crieghton type and make the tourney 3 out of 4 years. I know this year they are pretty solid.

There are two guys the first would be the best: Steve Masiello--NYer-who's still at Louisville--he's ready. Played for Rick at UK. Former ballboy at the Garden for the Knicks when Rick was there. GREAT RECRUITER--will go after city kids, not kids from Winfield-Mt. Union, Martensdale-St Marys, or Farragut. The last part was a joke for all you stuffed shirts LOL...The other would be Little Rick, not Lil Lick, but Richard Pitino Jr...great recruiter for dad and Pitino requires his coaches to do X and O's and recruit. Remember no MID MAJOR GUYS>>>NONE. Assistant who have paid their dues with a Big Time BCS coach are hungry to prove themselves and have a safety net to help them with things that arise. With our practice facilities and upgrades to Carver...NOW IS THE TIME.

I can't see Lick getting fired unless there is another group that transfers. He's going to get next season, but he's probably on a short leash. NIT next season should be the goal. If not, then I will agree he should go, but not until then.

Interesting.

Personally, I would shy away from PitinoJR. His dad is a hoops-gypsy so he might be, too.

Since the Hawks need to move up in the conference, why not an assistant coach at one of the top-level teams in the conference? Like you said, a hungry assistant ready to prove himself plus it might take a top-level program in the conference down a peg or two.

Like i said in a previous thread.Keno is not going to come to iowa. Just look at the way we keep disposing coaches. Look at our past three coaches, we kicked Mr. Davis out, because he couldnt get far into the trouney. We kicked Alford out, because he was too mean and we didnt like his attitude a year after he took us to a Big 10 championship. And now we're kicking out a guy who is working with a very small selection and horrible facilities. Now tell me why would a hot shot coach want to come here? Lick may or may not be the right guy for the job, but seriously take off the damn black and gold glasses and think about it. Who is going to want to come coach here if we have to keep throwing away coaches like used condoms and we have no reason to. I hate the state of iowa basketball just like each and every one of you, but we have got to stop pulling the trigger so soon.

I agree with you about Keno. I can't figure a good reason why he would want to come to Iowa after the way his pop was dumped on. That's not holding a grudge, that's just wisdom by not walking down the trail you know has snakes on it.

If he likes the state of Iowa, I could see him taking the ISU job. Hilton was magic with up-tempo teams or in-your-jock defensive teams. McDermott's teams are neither.

If Iowa were to send out feelers to Keno and if he turned Barta down, the top two reasons for not coming to Iowa would not be: (1) Alford (2) Lickliter.

(1) Alford didn't get run. He left. And he left after more than a decade. Do you use a condom for a decade?

(2) Lickliter hasn't got run. An argument could be made the program is worse than when Alford left. It's about W's and L's. And those are definitely worse. Now, it could be Iowa's lousy facilities. Or it could be that Alford left him little talent. It could be that he isn't recruiting talent. Or it could be a combination of those three.

If the latter is true, then your point about using coaches up like condoms is a good illustration. Would you use a condom that doesn't do the job you paid for it to do? After three years would you?

I would know as soon as i took the condom out of the wrapper if it wasnt going to work or not. And alford was forced out of town, it wasnt one of those you leave or you're fired deals, but the way he was treated by fans whenever they seen him or his family in public that caused him to leave.

Why? who is going to transfer that would just make you die? i would welcome a couple spots to open up to give a couple jucos the chance to come in for 1 or 2 years that could ball.

Jucos?? We have tried that. Could not get them on campus. I am all for upgrading talent but I am not sure that is possible with this staff. They have yet to show that they are capable of landing anyone who could provide immediate help. Think about this...you are a juco pt guard and are looking for a school where you could have an impact right away. Why not Iowa??? It makes sense to me BUT we could not get it done. Bottom line is we need a HUGE boost in regards to recruiting. Not much changes until this happens.

Assistant head coach STEVE FORBES from Tennessee. Iowa native, fairly young, excellent recruiter, comes from a successful program and has head coaching experience.
