If it ends up a 3 way tie (Iowa, OSU, MSU)...

with all the teams with 1 loss in conference then who goes to the Rose Bowl?

In this scenario Iowa would have beat Michigan State and Ohio State would beat Iowa.

Is the tiebreaker?:

1. Who is the highest in the BCS rankings? In this case would probably end up being Ohio State I would guess.

2. Best record versus other two teams? This is a little different since Ohio State and Michigan State don't play each other. The records would be Ohio State 1-0, Iowa 1-1, and Michigan State 0-1.

3. Who hasn't been to the Rose Bowl for the longest time period? Which it would be Michigan State since they haven't been since what 1987 or 88? I know at one time this use to be a tie-breaker but not sure if this is still one of the criteria.

I think Iowa would be out for sure because after Big Ten record will come overall record. Then would come who has gone the longest without going to the Rose. The problem arises if TCU or Boise St. does not go to the Championship and are still in the top 8 of the BCS.

Assuming an Iowa loss against Ohio State, it would probably be Ohio State, as Iowa would have the loss at Arizona.

It would be MSU because they would end up with the same record as OSU but havent been to the Rose in quite a while.

I don't think how long it's been since you've been there has anything to do with it anymore.

Yeah, that rule went out the window when the BCS started. It may "unofficially" factor in to the decision behind closed doors (i.e. "Iowa will draw more fans b/c they haven't been there in 20 yrs, whereas OSU was just here last year").

If Iowa loses to OSU and OSU/MSU are tied record wise it goes to higher BCS ranking.

They got rid of the "longest since" clause a few years back.

Yep, it does go to the BCS. My bad:

The BCS consists of five (5) bowl games: BCS National Championship Game, Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, and Sugar Bowl. Participation by a Big Ten Conference member institution will be determined as follows:

1. BCS National Championship Game. In the event the conference has one or two football teams ranked No. 1 and/or No. 2 in the final BCS poll, these conference team(s) shall participate in the BCS National Championship Game.
2. Rose Bowl. Unless ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in the final BCS poll, the conference champion shall participate in the Rose Bowl. The championship shall be determined on the percentage basis of conference games (tie games counts ½ win and ½ loss). If there is a tie for the championship, the Rose Bowl representative will be determined as follows:
1. An ineligible team shall not be considered in the standings for determination of the conference representative.
2. If there is a tie for the championship, the winner of the game between these two teams shall represent the conference.
3. If there is still a tie, or if the tied teams did not play each other, the representative shall be determined on the percentage basis of all games played.
4. If there is still a tie, the highest-ranked team in the final BCS standings shall be the representative.
5. If more than two teams tie for the championship, the same selection procedures shall be followed with the following exceptions:
1. If three teams are tied, and if one team defeated both of the other teams, then that team shall be the representative.
2. If three teams are still tied, and if two of the three teams defeated the third team, the third team is eliminated, and the remaining two teams shall revert to the two-team tie procedure.
3. If three teams are still tied, and there is a tie game between two of the three teams, or if two or all three of the teams did not play each other, the representative shall be determined on a percentage basis of all games played.
4. If three teams are still tied, and one of the three teams is eliminated through the percentage basis of all games played, the remaining two teams shall revert to the two-team tie procedure.
5. If three teams are still tied, and all three teams have the same winning percentage of all games played, the highest-ranked team in the final BCS standings shall be the representative.
6. If four or more teams tie for the championship, the following selection procedure shall be followed:
1. If one team defeated each of the other three teams, then that team shall be the representative.
2. If two of the four teams defeated each of the other two teams, the latter two teams shall be eliminated, and the two remaining teams shall revert to the two-team tie procedure.
3. If three of the four teams defeated the fourth team, the fourth team is eliminated, and the remaining three teams shall revert to the three-team tie procedure.
4. If there is a tie game between two of the four teams, or if two of the four teams did not play each other, the representative shall be determined on a percentage basis of all games played.
5. If one of the four teams is eliminated through the percentage basis of all games played, the remaining three teams shall revert to the three-team tie procedure.
6. If all four teams are still tied and have the same winning percentage of all games played, the highest-ranked team in the final BCS standings shall be the representative.

The Big Ten champion always goes to the Rose Bowl unless it is in the BCS championship. Only if the Big Ten or Pac-10 champ goes to the championship game can Boise State or TCU go to the Rose Bowl.

Here's the tiebreaker.

Method to Determine Big Ten Conference Automatic Representative to Bowl Championship Series - BIG TEN OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE

As has been discussed numerous times here, that isn't the case this year. This is one of the years (every 4 years) where the Rose is not obigated to take the Big 10 champ. Scenario wise, if Ohio State were to win out and play for the national championship, the Rose Bowl would not be required to take whoever finished second.

It's the reason a lot of the early bowl projections had Boise State in the Rose Bowl.

The Rose Bowl is never obligated to take the 2nd place team. Can't you read? What does the Big Ten Champion always goes to the Rose Bowl unless it is in the championship game mean? Maybe I should have written that the Big Ten's automatic BCS qualifier always goes to the Rose Bowl unless it is in the championship game.

Why can't people understand a simple sentence. People also don't understand the new rule. Actually, the new rule was written to clarify the existing situation. It really isn't a new rule.

For some reason, people thought the Rose Bowl was obligated to take a Big Ten or Pac-10 team if they lost a team to the championship game. That was never true. Remember Big Ten co-champion Iowa in the Orange Bowl in 2002. Also, remember all the Iowa fans that were stuck with Rose Bowl packages because they thought Iowa was going to the Rose Bowl that year.

The rule was rewritten to clarify the situation, but all it did was confuse people even more.

Head to head will be the tiebreaker. Ohio State will be the only one of the three teams that did not lose to either of the other 2 teams.
