If Iowa can't do better

than a true career assistant, then I just didn't realize how bad it has become.

If that was the scenario, I would almost think it might be worthwhile to go hire someone like Mr. Davis, when Drake hired him, to steward the program at the same time you hire his replacement.

Perhaps there is an ex-pro or big name college coach, who has a son that is an up-and-coming coach.

Who says Iowa can't do better? I hope Barta doesn't have this attitude.

I say aim high....you'll NEVER hit a home run if you don't swing the bat. Fortunately it appears Forbes is ours for the taking, so if Barta can't get someone on his "A" list he can always hire Forbes....which would not be a bad hire to begin with.

Why? Memphis hired a career assistant and that's working out well. And don't say that he is riding Calipari's coat tails cause he lost a lot of talent and has a good class coming in. Plus we aren't going to attract top tier coaches like Pearl or Dixon, cause we don't have the facilities yet, and why would they leave good programs to rebuild ours? And picking up a mid-major coach hasn't worked out twice. Why would this be the end of the world?

The Pastner analogy is terrible...

He may very well have a good recruiting class coming in next year but he didn't take over a program in the worst shape it has ever been. He was also an assitant coach for Memphis before he became the head.

Go back to the drawing board.

He was an assistant coach like Forbes is an assistant coach at a solid program. I wasn't comparing the state of our programs when the head coach left, just simply saying that he wasn't left with an amazing talent filled program, and yes he does have a good recruiting class coming in next year.

I just don't think we should dismiss Forbes because he never was a HC at a D-1 program or at a mid major even. those haven't worked for us, so if we can't get a Pearl or a Dixon do we want to hire another mid major, or would it kill us to try something different and get a recruiter from a strong program?

How many times are you going to make the same post?

Pretty lame brained post there. Not many guys start off as a HC, would you have bitched about hiring Matta when he was an assistant, or had only coached at Butler and/or Xavier for a year? That wasnt lights out credentials, but he sure has proven to be a good hire, hasnt he?

Jamie Dixon was also an assistant at Pitt, and was promoted to HC when Ben Howland took the UCLA job..
