If Ferentz was there yesterday would we have anymore information?

I think all of us can agree that as the head of the program Ferentz and Barta should have been there yesterday or at least they should’ve postponed the press conference until they can both attend.

That being said, if they were there yesterday would we have any more information than we do now? We know that the program likes to handle things privately. Even if they were there they would have been very careful as to what information to give out. The media would still be crying for more information. The Millers, Peraults and Doyles of the world would still be screaming for blood.

I’m not saying that they should not have been there because they should have. All I’m saying is that if they were we would still be in the media firestorm we are now.

No, but that's not the point.

The national media doesn't actually care what happened, especially if nothing wrong happened. They're out for blood. Barta and Ferentz being there has nothing to do with us learning more, but it does "look bad" so that's something they can talk about in endless angry circles.

That's bs. Why on Earth would the national media be head hunting Iowa football? What a paranoid and idiotic statement. The national media will forget about this atory forever tomorrow.

Let me ask you this. If we went started a new war tomorrow, would we lose if the President didn't come on TV and explain it, and instead sent his press secretary? Of course not. But the President is a leader, and as a leader, it is his responsibility to explain the situation.

Coach Ferentz and AD Barta are the leaders of the organization, and they need to be the public face of the program during times like this.

My point is that even if they were there it might still look bad because they wouldn't given enough info to the media.

The only information that is available is what is known now which isn't much. It would have made no difference if Barta or Ferentz were there, or not, there would be nothing more to say.

Should they have held off on the presser until they were able to attend, probably so, but then the national media and many of this board would have been screaming bloody murder that they aren't addressing all of the rumors out there. Darned if you do, darned if you don't.

In hindsight, perhaps what they should have done is put out a statement that acknowledged the situation, explained clearly that they have had direct communication with all of the parents, they understand the situation and that they are all in good hands at UIHC. Would have also been good to say that their risk level for any serious downline effects is minimal (assuming this is the case). Also, get the parents buy-in that neither KF nor Barta needed to sit in IC during this time as the situation is under control.

They could then have scheduled a presser when they were both available and more information was known.

I'm not saying the national media has anything against Iowa specifically. I'm saying they are reacting based on the little they know and they are out for blood. Anything that fits into that narrative is something they will talk about.

I also agree that they should have waited until Ferentz and Barta could have been at the press conference.

Finally, depending on what happened, some people could deserve to be punished for this, some severely depending on the facts. The point is I don't know that yet, neither do you, and neither does Jim Rome.

No. They wouldn't have offered anything of substance, other than perhaps saying that KF had spoken and met with the players and their families.

And if they had been there, but been saying "I don't know" or "I can't comment on that", then folks would be ****** about that.

No and you would have significantly less information because it's a safe assumption Biff Pogi (the only person there with anything worth hearing) would not have been there if Ferentz was.

They're not head-hunting Iowa football, but that doesn't mean they're not out looking for blood. You are correct that they'll forget the story tomorrow because they'll be looking for blood elsewhere. They don't care about the health of the athletes; they are looking for ways to drive people to listen to or read their stuff because it generates revenue.
