If Barta retains Lickliter

I will without a doubt feel sorry for Coach Lickliter. He has been put in a very difficult position over the last few days. His AD essentially hung him out to dry on Thursday and by ignoring firing report (rumors) after report by the media has continued to leave the thought out there that Lick is out of here.

IF Lick comes back he is going to have little to no support now. I suspect Barta will still go down the road of ending the Lickliter era but it certainly has gotten interesting the last 24 hours with rumors circulating that he will be retained.

This should be a very interesting next 24-48 hours in the world of hawkeye hoops. Stay tuned.

I think there is less than 5% chance Lick comes back at all....

Cause if he does there are going to be more transfers of key players yet AGAIN.

I've seen people express concern that he will be retained, but I haven't read anything lately about actual rumors that Barta is keeping him. Am I missing something?

I agree with your post though. If Lickliter is retained, he will have ZERO support from the fan base. Ditto for Barta.

Why because there is the potential to be good next year under Lick?

Actually there is not really any potential to be good next year...you will just see alot of the same crap this year...except that Lick might have found some High School teams to beat in the OOC schedule...cause in the big ten you will be getting the same record.

If Lickliter is retained, there may be transfers, and we've seen what kind of affect that had on this year's team. The transfers are speculation, but it seems like a definitely possibility.

If Lickliter is retained, he will not be able to recruit next year because no recruit will believe that Lickliter will be around for more than 1 more year.

If Lickliter is retained, Carver Hawkeye Arena will be empty. You think it was bad this year, you haven't seen anything yet.

WHY...what potential. The league will improve dramatically again. We didn't have guys this year that belonged in the upper half of the league. Saying we should improve...back it up why? THe 4 guys coming in will have little if any affect on the program. At least next year, maybe 2 years down the road but not next year.

I'm going to go ahead and guess that you meant to say something else.

Keyword here is potential, IMO Barta will be putting his own job on the line as well if he brings Lick back banking on potential.

If it doesn't work out next year with Lick back:
1) CHA will be even emptier
2) Barta won't be able to secure donations like before and will be out the door because of it. You can only depend on football carrying the weight for so long.

Barta isn't going anywhere, Lickliter or no Lickliter. If (assuming there is one) this next hire doesn't work out, then maybe. But like BHGP said this morning, name me the athletic director who's been canned because his first major hire didn't work out.

Hell, look at ISU. Pollard will have gone through NINE different coaches in football, basketball and wrestling when he fires McDermott next year, and he still has his job.
