NCAA football grad rates at all-time high, but top schools falter - USATODAY.com

"But the annual academic scorecard was less flattering to many of the sport's top-tier programs. Seven of the top 10 — including No. 1 Auburn, No. 2 Oregon and No. 3 Boise State — and 16 of the top 25 in the current Bowl Championship Series standings fell beneath the sport's four-year average. Oklahoma and Arizona graduated fewer than half of their players."

The Big Ten as a whole should be commended. Look at the conference rates in the article. Purdue is last in the Big Ten with a 78% rate.

While graduating less than half their players seems low by comparison to other football teams, that is probably about what it is across the nation for students as a whole. I am not trying to stick up for them, I am merely pointing it out. I believe they should be able to do better.

At Iowa, the current grad rate is 68.5% for all students-- that's the % of students who get a degree within six years of enrolling. The football team's rate is 79%.

As I've said many times, Kirk Ferentz is worth every penny of that contract.

I've been following Hawkeye football for about 30 years and graduation rate has been anywhere from 55%-70%.....For KF to exceed that is remarkable. At this rate for every 5 kids they bring into the program 4 are graduating within six years. Compared to 3 out of 5 as University as a whole. Btw, KF has a graduation bonus in his contract, so he is getting every penny.:D
