Had free time sitting around at our HS b-ball team supper last night. When I have free time my brain starts going...
Got to thinking that we have a really good core group of people on this board. Lots of good discourse, lots of differing opinions. Not everyone agrees, and there's lots of good banter. Lots of us have also joked around about the idea of a meet up which I don't think would obviously happen because of geographic reasons, wanting to maintain anonymity, etc.
Also thinking about that, I wondered if it would be fun to sometime have a Zoom/Teams meet up for fun, for those who might enjoy it but also still maintain anonymity? Obviously there are people who'd say "hell no." And that is totally fine. But is there anyone here who'd enjoy being able to shoot the shit with other's here in a conversational, vocal setting instead of typing replies back and forth? Only thing I'd say is I think it's pretty important that anonymity, while not required if someone so chooses, should be 100% respected. If you have a camera and want to use it or give your name so be it, but have no expectations of anyone else doing the same. I think you'd get way more participation that way if people knew it was just as private as the HN board, where they could still chit chat about whatever and not put themselves out there.
Dumb idea? Maybe. I think it could be fun. No "leader" or moderator of the group, just sit around and bullshit with people we've been typing back and forth between for 10-15 years. No putting yourself out there at all unless you want to, usernames would be the only requirement so folks know who they're talking to from the board. Also, no politics/religion/yadda yadda. Keep it the same as if you were sitting in your garage with your buddies having a beer or in my case a Diet Coke.
Anywhoo...cross-posting this one the basketball board as well and see what sticks to the wall. If we get a response we'll maybe set up a date/time.
