Listening tonight to video of Ferentz's post-game presser, I about fell out of my chair when I heard that.

Save for playing at Happy Valley and Lincoln, that is simply one of the best schedules the football gods have blessed the Iowa football program with in years: two presumably easy OOC games, Iowa State, Pitt at home and then three of the worst programs in the B1G. Iowa should be 8-0 or 7-1 at this point, with a better than even chance of winning at home versus one of the Michigan schools and at Purdue.
Instead, the team has consistently underperformed, in part because of lack of size and talent on the defensive side of the ball and frankly some very poor play-calling at critical times in tight games (which, unfortunately, too many of them have been.) This team has not responded well to spread offenses and mobile quarterbacks.
Iowa State was a tough loss. A miracle fourth quarter saved the Pitt game from being a disaster. Minnesota was a wholly embarrassing loss.
A "tough" schedule, Kirk? Really? That's actually how you want to explain your team's underachievement?
