I thought a dribbler stumbling and going down was travelling??

At a super key point in the game, hawks maybe still had a two possession lead and a TN big guy dribbled into the lane, stumbled, went down, grabbed the ball which for the last 50 + years has always been an automatic travel call.

Instead they let Cuonzo call timeout, I am not sure but I think TN scored,

but hawks should have had the ball and a chance to make it a three possession game late in the game.

We didnt play great but I cant abide such a an uneven badly reffed game.

Were these play in refs??

It was tough to tell but...

a player can dribble while falling to the ground and then gain control once on the ground or the refs may have deemed he temporarily lost control and then regained it once on the floor.

so if either of those happened it wouldn't have been a travel.

He grabbed the ball and never lost possession on the way to the ground. Easy, but unfortunately missed call.

One of the worst calls I have ever seen. Too bad Coach Fran did not let them have it for that. A good chair throwing would have been fitting.

It was a terrible no-call, but TN came out of the timeout and missed the shot, Iowa got rebound and the game went on, so no harm done. Non factor in the game.

I guess my only complaint regarding the time out situation is the fact that a coach can make that call to avoid the jump ball/travel/potential turnover scenario but at the same time they no longer allow a player to call a TO while falling out of bounds. In my opinion if you're going to allow one you allow the other, because its essentially the same situation. But thats just my opinion.

What I couldn't tell was, did he have control of the ball that allowed the coach to call timeout? I guess I'm a little unclear of how that rule applies........I certainly jumped off the couch on that play....

I believe that you can fall to the ground with the ball without travelling so long as your pivot foot does not move.

That said, it looked like a travel to me.

The refs were getting destroyed on twitter by unbiased basketball commentators. They were awful, no doubt. They didn't miss wide open jump shots, however.
