I think Fran's got a great future with the Hawks!

He is one of a few coaches to take 4 teams to the dance. so you know he can build programs. But can he maintain it?

I think he can maintain Iowa in the top part of the big 10 and he needs to get that elite point guard to maybe win the big regular season (as you know ISU fans think the tourneys are crapshoots).

I think he is locking in better, longer, more athletic overall talent.

He could probably stay here for 10 more years but I also dont think Fran is going to coach until he is 75 like some of these other guys.

And another big step is Fran getting players with that mindset that they will dominate lesser teams like lower teams in the Big and non-conf opponents.

Any chance he would bolt to Syracuse in 3 years when that open up? Considering he is from the that neck of the woods.

Ha! Last week it was a different story.

I think he will be able to maintain it and Iowa's PPP and wins, I believe, will only go up with better shooters and long athletic guards that can slash to the hoop and be disruptive defensively.

I can't imagine he would leave his kid who will be on the team. I think if he's still here in 2 years, he will retire here.

As much as I believe the athletic department for Iowa is terrible. I think Barta has done a good job of pulling in the money and actually upgrading the facilities. It is really amazing the jobs Davis and Fry/Ferentz did given how bad some of the facilities were. This leads me to believe Fran sticks around as Iowa is a pretty good job at the moment.

Mrs Fran is from Minny and they are close to those parents. She played in the central/midwest so I think she likes Iowa.

I am not sure it is a foregone conclusion that the boys play for Fran. It is one thing to play high school bball for your dad.

I hope he continues he climb in success to the point that we can finish in the top three of the conference and win the title at least once every three years. I would be thrilled to take that.

The BIG is way too tough for that. I'd be happy with once every 5 years. As long as we made a few deep runs in the tourney.

Proximity to his wife's family was mentioned prominently when discussing their decision to come here. If he can maintain/grow the program in the next 1-2 still, I think he stays through the 2022-23 season when Patrick graduates (I think).

Perhaps more importantly, we need the program to be elevated to the point that it becomes an attractive job to potential coaches...not the empty cupboards that some of our coaches have left.

Notre Dame would be a job I'd worry about Fran being interested in if it came open.

But I am not 100% sold on Fran just yet, I give him credit for rebuilding the program but can he sustain it? After next years class graduates the talent looks like it is taking a downward turn.

I think Fran has some snipers coming in next year. I really like the Fleming kid. He's played with Oak Hill, the premier program in the country. Brady Ellingson will be coming off his redshirt season. Hopefully he has put on some muscle. I think Dom Uhl has a ton of potential.

Hawks will be ok next season.

No Iowa coach has ever done that. Last Big title was when Olson was here and we shared it. If Fran accomplished that ,they would need to rename Carver for him. Put up a statue.

The next 2 classes are huge for Fran and Iowa. There's a great opportunity next year for at least a couple of the freshmen to step into significant playing time. Gesell, Jok, Uthoff, and Woody will be starters most likely. Dom Uhl has a lot of upside and could play his way into the starting lineup or he could go with Clemmons and go smaller. Losing 4 kids after next season means another large class where we need guards and big men.
