I stopped by the Gazette/KCRG Sports Desk on Monday

Jon, good appearance. My only issue with it is your calling DeMatha a "football factory." DeMatha is a well-respected, four-year academy known for academic achievement, music, arts, service as well as athletics. The basketball program is every bit as good, if not better than, the football program. When he retired in 2002, the legendary Morgan Wootten had the most wins as a head basketball coach at any level. Former Iowa PG Jeff Peterson was from DeMatha, of course.

It's exciting that the football program has managed to develop some inroads here. In addition to be being solid athletes, DeMatha grads are also pretty good citizens.

Do any of those comments really fit into the context of the conversation?

Among all those things, it's a football factory as well. And, unless I was mistaken, they were talking football recruiting. Hence the term "football factory" being used.

"Football factory" is often used in a derogatory manner to describe an institution that focuses on the athletics to the detriment of academics or other aspects of school life. That does not describe DeMatha.

I can't get anything to play at this link besides the Jim Miller Subaru ad. Did it get pulled or is my browser having issues?

I didnt mean a football factory in the negative sense, but yes, that is not a great term in general. These kids are great students, and get a great education...no doubt.

Nice work Jon. I think you're right about the Brust situation..as in there is no situation. He probably won't see any minutes tomorrow night, and some people are trying to make a story when there really isn't anything there.

I think Nick used that to segue into football recruiting..which wasn't bad. For those that listened to Miller & Deace in the Morning, you know I like bulldogging segues. The more odd and awkward, the more I liked them ;)

Come on - 7 (to 9) wins? Don't turtle on us just because you predicted 12-0 this past year. 8 wins, minimum. Probably 10.

Don't worry, Jon's homerism is of the creeping variety. That prediction will go up to 8-10 after the spring game and end up at 10-12 by fall. ;)
