I never understood why?

I never understood why people get mad and get so negative about the players.

I call it the d0uche bag quotient. The more frequently you feel the need to rip the players on the teams you root for, the bigger the d0uche bag you are in life. It is a scientific fact, just look it up.

I dont get too mad, after all it is just a game and none of us are playing it at that level. But there are a lot of things that upset me mostly because they confuse the sh*t out of me...for example:

How can Gesell be that horrible of a free throw shooter?
Why does Woody always fade away from the basket instead of taking it up strong?
Why does Iowa almost always come out absolutely flat in the second half?

Its the recurring trends that drive me absolutely bonkers. Does that make me a dbag? I dont really think so, but being called names on the internet is what hurts my feelings more than anything.

Certainly makes one wonder what a fan is, Atomic. I have never liked the ridicule and extremely nasty comments made about Hawkeye players who are in a slump, and/or suffering the Sophomore jitters. They are Hawkeye athletes who like everyone else need help and support through difficult times. Mike G. was having a rough stretch and I even criticized him, however knowing he would rise to his natural ability and he certainly did against Pepperdine.....

You sound like Shane who has been missed and absent for a while. I was watching Sound Off last Sunday and they posted a comment on the bottom ot the screen. It mentioned something about the negativity of supposed Hawkeye fans who are entirely too critical of the teams, EVEN when they win. The author was Shane from Marshalltown. I believe he is known and respected by Murph, Andy and the Sound Off Crew.....

It is difficult to understand for me. Seems like there is a cult of negativity taking over the football and basketball forums. Criticism is understandable to a degree but the personal attacks are beyond the pale.....

Missed the obvious answer. As message boarders we realize that we have far much more talent and more invested in Iowa athletics then the players do therefore some of us feel the need to call out such players. I thought it was simple...

When I comment on a player, it is justified criticism and not a personal attack. When you do it, it is hating, ripping, and unjustified anger.
