I just don't understand why...

As I look at this team with an eye of a 30 year basketball coach, I see deficiencies. When I bring them to a PUBLIC FORUM to discuss them I become a cyclone troll. Being an arm chair QB is part of Americana. Facts are just facts with this team. Everything I talked about is happening, and it does not lessen my love for the University or Team.

I do not and have never blasted people for their opinions. I would hope an open minded hawkeye fan would see the issues I bring up. It does not mean we are suddenly Cyclone fans or anything like that. Just really makes me wonder why people come to a public forum expecting nothing but roses.

The term troll gets thrown around way to much around here. I've never had a problem telling the difference between a fan that was critical and someone who is troling.

As a 20 year basketball coach, I really don't know what is going on with this team.

I can. Starts on the defensive end of the floor. You aren't gonna shoot well every night and when those nights happen you have to be able to get stops. The reason their defense isn't good is because their fundamentals are horrendous. Standing straight up, not being in a stance where you can contest and get back, guys running at shooters, losing guys on the baseline, etc, etc, etc. this team has given up 20 3 pointers the last 2 games, 20. Iowa's hope on D is the other team missing open shots. Individually Iowa has some good defenders, but it takes all 5 being on the same page and doing the right things.

There were a hand full of games earlier in the season where the Hawks gave up a decent amount of points but Iowa just outscored them. Offense has gone stagnant cause teams have figured out how to defend them. Get physical with Uthoff and have someone tailing Jok at all times. Jok has done a good job of overcoming by using screens and moving without the ball but he can't do it all by himself. Bench has hit a freshman wall as well. Uthoff needs to channel his inner Whitey and attack the basket to at least get to the line and force the issue. Woody also needs to take advantage of mismatches when he get the ball down low. Iowa's guards shouldn't be posting up more then the big men.

Yep they figured out how to defend us. All they have to do is have Uthoff miss all of his 3's he was making earlier and have them miss about 6 wide open layups.

Maryland is good and was at home. Indiana was good and at home. Minnesota was winless and really trying to get a win. They got one against Maryland. We never play good at Penn State. Wisconsin plays us the same way every year. Teams didn't frickin figure us out. If they did, how did Jok get 17 in the 1st half but only 4 in the 2nd? All that game film to learn how to stop Jok and they couldn't figure it out, but halftime adjustments is how they "figured it out"? Come on. Players get hot and then get cold. Uthoff was shooting like a 1st team all American and now he's shooting like an honorable mention big 10 player. If he gets hot again, will teams have forgotten what they had figured out earlier?

This is an excellent post^. My question is why hasn't the coaching staff been working with them on these things? Or, if they are, why aren't the players listening? I mean, I saw N. Hayes pump fake Uthoff twice and JU just jumped and landed on him, getting a couple of silly fouls. The defense is embarrassing right now.

Serious question PC... If someone's posts are always critical are they a troll, critical, negative, a fan with a differing opinion... I'm not necessarily referencing the OP.

I consider myself to be an optimistic poster. I'm probably over the top positive. Some may say that's as bad as being over the top critical. Is it? I honestly don't know and want your opinion because you stay pretty level headed whether the conversation is positive or negative in nature.

I honestly think we can still go 14-4. I can honestly say I will be fine if we go 13-5...a game better than I expected going into the season. I will be disappointed if we end up 12-6...even though that's what I predicted. A 2-5 finish will be a tough pill to swallow.

Someone who is always negative is someone who goes to this board to vent or someone who just enjoys discussing the negative things as things that need improved on. A troll is someone who doesn't even believe the things they say. They just say them to illicit reaction. Hawknick was a troll. Not because he was overly positive. But because it was blatantly obvious he was throwing things out to pi$$ people off. In fact, I would say your posts are just as positive as nick's were. They are night and day different tho in how they come off.

A cyclone fan who comes over here all the time and discusses why iowa state is better than Iowa is an idiot. A cyclone fan who shows up only after tough losses and prods at people is a troll.

I appreciate the feedback. Thanks!
