thinking something I never thought I would. I really like Kirk and I want him to stay (Remeber folks, this is the SAME guy that we were extremely scared of losing just a short time ago).
However, something is wrong. I don't have a clue what it is that's wrong but there is something. I won't go in a long post about the close losses, seemingly odd playcalls at certain times, etc. (ok, one point, the media talks about how BALANCED we are on offense and yes, at the end of the game if you look at the runs vs. pass, it pretty close. BUT, we go in streaks that we abondon one or the other.)
I love this team and outside of some mistakes at some key, rememberable mistakes by Stanzi and a few others, I just don't think effort or execution is the reason why we have lost 3 or 4 games that we led in the 4th qtr. I will never stop loving this team. HOWEVER, I may have to reevaluate how much energy and emotion I put into them, cause it just hurts to much (not the losses, I expect a heartbreaker or two per season), but not 4 losses in the fashion we are losing them.
Honestly, I don't know if its coaching, execution, or whatever else, but I think every single person that see this post can say it not level of talent, at least not with this particular offense which leads us to say it must be something else. I don't necessarily like O'Keefe's predictability but I respect Kirk's loyalty to him. That same respectable loyalty, and that huge paycheck, may be his undoing.
Main Point: I will take 9+ win seasons every year !!!! yep, I said it. even those 9-10 win seasons we lose a game we shouldn't. HOWEVER, 7-8 wins seasons with 9+win talent will not work. The player personel changes every few years so talent with come and go, but what remains constant is the coaching staff, and it is their job to adapt to the talent they have and to prepare for the talent and schemes of the competition (THIS, is what we have not seemed to do well this year) And the schedule is about to get tougher next year folks. I live in Omaha and I do NOT like the husker fans and their "tradition" and "entitlement", but they do have a good team and a very good, although somewhat abrasive, coaching staff.
The pain seems to lessen a bit each loss, and I remember the 90's when losses didn't hurt much at all because I didn't expect much............I don't want that to return.
