I bought the Brooklyn Bridge.

And I have no one to blame except for myself. I completely fell for the NEW KIRK thing, hook, line and sinker. I wanted to believe so much, that I talked myself into the notion that the program was headed in the right direction, that things were going to be different in a sustainable manner. I ignored the history of fleeting success followed by abject, prolonged mediocrity. Based on history, we have until 2021 to get interested. However, by that time, they may be out of bridges to sell us.

homes your very honest thoughts here deserve some attention. Don't feel alone as I bought in last season too maybe from a little different perspective. I thought after the disaster in the bowl game the previous season Kirk had made up his mind to go out on a high note and had done an honest evaluation of what needed fixing before he retired. Then as another poster pointed out Kirk reverted to his natural instincts when we played on the big stage.

I don't think this can go on until the end of Kirk's contract so my question becomes where do we go from here? Next season looks to get real ugly with many empty seats and talk about money wasted on renovation rather than changing the direction of the program. From what I understand the contract stipulates that Brian takes over should Kirk retire on his own. So I don't see any way of gently easing Kirk out and convincing him to move on. It will take a very concerted effort from the top of the food chain for things to change and we will have to suffer through more misery to get there IMO.

Where exactly is the proof for you assertion in bold above?

I have heard this as well, and it scares me. What BS if true, this is NOT how a major Div 1 football program should be run. If true, it's BS that Kirk can fix it so his son can become the next coach, is that legal?

Homes, the title of your thread is one of the best I've ever seen. I laughed out load.

No way this can be true. As big of a dipshit as Barta is, no way he agrees to this after Kirk already bent him over with the buyout.

We have know way of knowing but I have seen the Brian taking over aspect discussed on other boards as supposedly part of the contract. It should scare us that we have no way of knowing until things hit the fan. From what we have seen from Barta and his close relationship with KF why would anything surprise you at this point as KF and his agent have bent him over big time twice now in negotiations?

At some point things look to get really ugly and that much does seem certain. In the current age of instant communication this situation will shed much negative light on Iowa as I don't think we've seen anything yet on that front. The day will come IMO when an Iowa AD operates under the philosophy of never again when it comes to contract negotiations with head coaches and I just hope to live long enough to see it.
