Hypothetical Situation re: Cam Newton

Let's say JUST FOR ARGUMENTS sake, that the following comes out to be true...

1. That Cam and Cecil Newton wanted to get paid.
2. That they hired a college matcher to sell his services
3. That Auburn paid the sum of 200K
4. That the leak out of UF is Dan Mullen now at MSU which means he broke federal privacy laws.

Then the following almost certainly happens: Dan Mullen, Gene Chizek and the Auburn AD are immediately fired and Chizik waxes poetic about his seasons on the plains in Ames.

But what are the long term implications for CFB if this came out? Does this have the potential to crush the illusion of amatuer? Does the death penalty come into play? How do you ever give fans the confidence that the star player on any team wasn't paid to be there?

The NCAA would never (unless there were multiple instances of this on one team) impose the death penalty. They saw what it did to the SWC - although I would love it if they did. Would love to see them not being allowed to play on TV - just to really screw with the SEC.

I think college recruiting (both football and MBB) is a lot like the steroid era in baseball. There is a lot of shady stuff going on and there are a lot of people that are well aware of it. however they turn a blind eye in fear of the consequences shedding light on the situation may bring. just my opinion
