Howe: True Freshman with Best Chance to Contribute in ’19

If I would pick who I’d most like to see it would be Tyler Goodson, because that would likely mean he was so good he forced his way onto the field. He could add another element to our offense.

I know it’s closer to the ball but part of me wonders if someone like Ezra Miller could take the somewhat open guard spot. He certainly has the size for it.

If I were to guess I would think Logan Lee plays over 4 games. He’s a college ready player and while we do have some DE depth he might mix in there and on specials.

I really like this 2019 group so we will see how it turns out in the coming years on the field.

I have said it before, but I think Belton is one of the secondary guys who gets minutes.

I think either Ezra Miller or Tyler Endres breaks into the guard rotation with an eye towards developing some experience on the 2020 OL.

I think Logan Lee will be interesting to see develop. I think he will be a phenomenal player and key leader on the team in coming years, but I have no idea what position he ends up at. It will be tough to break into the DE rotation this year. I could see his long-term home being DT or OT. Who knows, maybe even a move back to TE. He will be a stud somewhere.

As I wrote, I still think the coaches do whatever they can do avoid burning redshirts. They'll continue following last year's blue print on utilizing the new redshirt rule.

I really like Logan Lee but I do everything I can to retain his redshirt. I'm thinking the DE rotation will be AJE, CG, Waggoner and VanValkenberg. I also think we see Amani Jones, Joe Evans and some other LBs line up out there.

Always interesting to watch at what point in the season they start to play a kid also.

As mentioned in the article you almost have to expect a DB to contribute as a TR FR. It seems to happen every year and at the rate Iowa cranks out NFL DBs, they are certainly getting good coaching at that spot that seems to get them ready.

My thought was that CG and ZVV might work inside a bit. Remains to be seen. I’m very excited for Jalen Hunt down the road as well but think he might need a season with Doyle to beef up a bit.

I bet if they do it is on pass-rushing situations to bring a LB off the edge spot (Jones, Doyle, Welch, etc.). I think they should have enough run-pluggers inside on early downs that they won't have to rely on an undersized DE moving in. Then again, Brinks was that undersized DE moving in last year, and he ended up starting, so you could be right.

We’ve seen it in the past but I don’t think we’ve been as deep as we are now. OJ, Hankins, Brents, DJ Johnson, Moss, Roberts. That’s going to be tough to crack.

If a true freshman DB plays my guess is it would be at the safety spot. Corner is pretty well set.
