Howe: Thoughts & Observations from Kids Day

This all sounds very optimistic. Petras is awesome. The running backs are all great. The DB's are awesome. Its all good.

Nice writeup - have also seen many Kids practices.
Totally concur with all your findings, very optimistic day for the Hawks.

Glad to see Petras has established himself as the number #1 guy.

O-line and D-line there are questions that still need to be answered. Minus the qb position, we all know that line play will dictate everything.

Nnormally the defense is ahead of the offense early on. This has me pretty concerned but our oline, but history shows it should be fine.

I got just the opposite opinion after viewing the interview. I,m now pessimistic about the defense. Dont wanna be, line 2b specific.
Good point. Is the offense a little better or is the defense down a little this year? Especially on the defensive line.

We never have been known as a team that puts pressure the QB, but more of a contain the QB, thus the old adage of bending but not breaking. Let them move between the twenty’s but keep them out of the end zone.

The season hasn’t even kicked off yet so there is time to improve on the defensive side of the ball. If there is one thing we have learned over the Kirk years is that the defense is usually our strong point. If anyone can get the defense where it needs to be it is Parker.

The question is will the defense be ready for the first two games. If not we could see a repeat of last year.

Kinda bummed the other Qbs didn't look so hot. But for our sake the lack of a QB competition/controversy is a good thing. A really good thing.

Yeah it's always gotta be one way or the other pretty much but with our history being what it is that was different. How good or bad will remain to be seen once we play indiana

Meh, we'll be fine if the offense is really good. The defense might not be great, but they aren't gonna get torched for 80 yard plays all over the place and the way the game is evolving, you gotta score points. Even Saban has said he had to adjust their expectations on defense and now they take way more risks. At the end of the day against the really good teams you might as well try to jump routes and get a pick rather than try to hold the guy to a mere 28 yard gain. But that all, of course, is predicated on your offense being able to run a bit of clock and convert for points pretty much every time they touch the ball. If we give up 35 a game and score 45 I ain't gonna complain.

Generally our back 7 look so good because the dline is always stout. I'm sure this one will be once "that" guy emerges.

I find it hard to believe that our offense is so amazing that it made our otherwise stout defense look vulnerable. That would be an incredibly un-Ferentz like situation.

That said, the offense should be better this season and Parker usually cobbles together at least a solid defensive unit. We should match up better with smaller and quicker teams. I fear we could get trucked by Wisconsin up front.
