Howe reports on Iowa's strategy

Play it close to the vest until the 4th quarter, then try to win it then. Not criticizing Rob, but is that really a new strategy, or a new way of spinning the ol' play not to lose strategy we so often see out of Ferentz? I'm sick and tired of watching playing not to lose football. It's telling your players, you're not good enough to win it, so I'll protect you from yourselves and see if bad luck for the other team or some twist of fate allows them to sneak one out.

I should clarify that it's my opinion based on observations. It was a column.

Honestly, it almost worked. You just can't attempt a FG with five and a half minutes left down 8. Have some faith in players to make a play.

No it didn't almost work. It could have but didn't.

That's all. Let your players try to make some plays. Don't rely on the other team not making plays. In games against good teams, it's almost like Ferentz re-watches the grainy tape of Iowa vs. Notre Dame in 1939, when Nile Kinnick punted like 29 times, and says - "I'm going with that!" for his game plan.

What would work and be welcome would be for someone to challenge Ferments once in a post game press conference...but that ain't ever going to happen in our lifetime.

The postgame questions were benign, but Hlas' column is SAVAGE. He'll be banned from the press buffet for a month at least.

I get that most of the conservative nature of Iowa is due to the lack of talent, but really? Take a freaking chance. Put in some changes to confuse the opposition. Last real change we had was the Raider package. And now everyone knows we run it. So it's not surprising too many people
