Don't forget Purdue in 2002, who completely dominated the first half by marching up and down the field. Iowa turned the game around just before the half with the TD return of the blocked FG (and later got another TD off a blocked punt) and still couldn't stop Purdue. Even after Clark's 95 yd catch and run Purdue stormed back and Iowa had to respond one more time. Banks 4th down heroics, connecting with Clark once more put us ahead late but I think we STILL had to pick Kearse, or Kirsch off one more time to finally secure the win.

I refer to that game often because I think it was the most important game in the Kirk era. Purdue was a bell cow in the prime years of the Tiller era. Once we won that game, with an absolute complete team effort in all phases, and needing every one of them, I felt we had finally turned the corner for good.
My memory on the Miami game is a little fuzzy. Didn't Miami make it a one score game late, then get one more chance, then DJ Johnson picked Big Ben off when they were driving? The Purdue win that season was big, no doubt. Was on the field for Dallas’ TD and the final pick. Joe Tiller was a neat dude. Always enjoyed interviewing him. He and KF had a great deal of mutual respect for each other.
There are multiple close games from the special seasons. The ones I reference in this column were focusing on Iowa has a heavy favorite, though, like yesterday.

I was on the Kinnick field once. Senior day, 1988 against Ohio State. The last game on the old turf. They allowed fans on the field after the game but we were soaking wet and it was barely forty degrees and we basically just wanted to get the hell out of there.
We were on our way to Des Moines from Cuba City that day and listened to the broadcast the whole way down. It was near ninety in Des Moines that Saturday and Sunday. The Miami game was HOT! Podolak took his shirt off in the press box during the game.
Miami pulled to within a score with about five minutes left. Roethlisberger had a day.
Iowa got the ball back and drained the clock. The OL served notice that it was a force. Hawkeyes with Fred Russell just plodded down the field.
