You're being kind Rob. Time ran out after this loss. The debacle that is Iowa Football falls largely on the shoulders of the coaching staff.

Any goodwill leftover from the 2015 season and the Ferentz family donating a ton of money is now pretty much dried up.

Bring on the BB team. Lack of passion will never be a problem for this staff.

I doubt any opponent is afraid of our passing game... At all.

I'm no x and o guru, but I've gotta believe it's hard to run the ball effectively when teams can sell out to stop it. One dimensional offense = zero dimensional offense. But unlike 2004 when we were down to the 5th string RB and all we could do was throw it, we're seeing 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Don't think that's going to fly in today's game.

This is simply a young, inexperienced football team that is handicapped by its coaching staff.

There is little reason to believe that this team will achieve anything but mediocrity for the forseeable future. Honestly, what we're you expecting?

Definitely need a new o line coach. This has to be the worst in a long time. Can't even get a yard or two. I'm done and moving on to BB. This is just to brutal to watch. Enough of the excuses.

And now, the annual "Hope we can keep our commits" angst begins...

You mean the 80% that are within 3 1/2 hours of IC or the handful that are only talented recruiter has lined up in Indiana? Kirk has found the secret to gaining a higher % of hits in the recruiting world........aim low.

I can feel the recruits we were so hopeful to land a few weeks ago dropping off Iowa's radar, decommitments coming next, then finally we steal recruits from MAC schools. What's that make us? A MAC school with better facilities.

5 games left, 2 we will lose no matter if we “figure it out” or not.

The rest are pick’ems and we will win 2 at best.

Yeah, this is probably where we are at. It sucks. This was a big game, and a bad loss, both in terms of record and future effect.

We lose next week, we likely won't win another game.

I haven't even watched Minnesota play but I just don't have a good feeling about the game next week. At the end of the day I think Fleck can coach and will make beating Iowa a priority for as long as he coaches up there just like Fitzgerald does. You could see the confidence in Pat Fitzgerald in shots of him on the sideline that second half and I expect the same from Fleck. We really needed to make the most of the time off from the bye week and didn't which I agree doesn't bode well moving forward.

You forgot an over paid coach

The article sums it up quite well. I just don't understand the offense. You can always blame "execution" of the plays (although it's tiresome to hear this), but every team has "execution" problems during the course of a game. That seems to be something that should be factored into it, like an engineer factors margins of safety into designs because he knows there will likely be execution problems by the installers. Good engineers anticipate that, and develop designs (game plans) or make field changes (in game decisions) to account for those mistakes that will inevitably happen.

I don't know anything about how the game plans are put together or who is calling the shots during the game, (Brian or Kirk or some consortium of coaches), but they need to re-evaluate all of it, immediately. All I can offer - fix it.

Rob, you touched on some important realities. You don't have to run the ball to set up the run. It is perfectly legal to pass the ball to set up the run. Utilize the talent you have and maximize their abilities; exploit their abilities. Does it matter how you gain yardage, run or pass? We need to quit trying to gain yards in a specific way; and just gain yards by out flanking the defense (run or pass). If we're going to insist on being a run dominant mentality, then we need a different run offense. Go get a dual threat qb and use all of your rb's.

But, right now, we've got a qb that is (will soon be; he's still learning) legit and the offense needs to go through his right arm. We do have talent at WR and, yes, we still see too many drops. But, Matt Quarrels hasn't dropped any passes; though, he hasn't played yet. Why? Brandon Smith hasn't dropped any passes, but he plays rarely. Why? Stanley hit on a long pass to MVB. That's great. But why wasn't that ISM on the go route? MVB was caught from behind. And, as you point out, why only one shot down field?

The fanatical reliance on zone blocking, run the ball into 8+ man fronts "because we're Iowa and we're OL university" is prideful. I don't care how we score, just score. Throw it or run it, I don't care. But here's a hint; learn to do what the defense isn't expecting and exploit their weakness(es). Become unpredictable. It just might be easier to score.

Where's the banging the head against the wall icon 'cause you'd need one after your post. It's KF, after all.

Illinois is a young and inexperienced team.

They are because of Beckman.

This is an excuse.

We have senior skill players. We have senior lbs.
