Howe: Brian Ferentz Groomed for Pressures of New Position

"Kirk Ferentz said Monday that he continually compiles a list of candidates for vacancies. He thought about them for about 2 minutes and came to the conclusion that his son was the best man for the job."

"Accomplished men in the profession such as Bill O’Brien, Scott Pioli, Dante Scarnecchia, Greg Davis and Joe Moore, among others, also have tutored him. His father has put together a Hall of Fame career."

BULLIES OF THE BIG TEN!

its put up or shut up time for Brian. I think he will be successful. If not, I really doubt tha KF will stick out his remaining contract and we can move on.

Jokes aside, Ferentz was criticized for and eventually copped to having lost his "energy" two years ago. He was too busy raising funds for the complex to coach. I'm paraphrasing but I'm not far off. Kirk admitted to needing to buckle down and refocus. There were teeth gnashing threads here about his choice of words. So with that said, as a hiring manager, hiring people is hard work. Its exhausting. This was both safe and easy.

I hope Brian is good in this role. We can hardly say "I hope he was really the best person" because that would imply others were considered. This was another classic Kirk move. I will be surprised if he's not better than Davis, but that isn't saying much and I think we should aim higher... but it is what it is.
