Howe: Bison Beat Up Bullies of the Big Ten

Everything we despise about Kirtball was compressed into a karmic black hole of suck in the last 4 minutes of that game.

Seriously the Bullies thing has to stop. That was Iowa circa 2002-2004. A Michigan player in 2003 said it one time after Iowa won in 2003 and since then nobody has referred to Iowa as bullies except for themselves & their fans.

You can't give yourself a nickname unless you're a pro wrestler. Or it's so off the charts true, nobody can dispute it

The Bully was Bob Sanders, and he's long gone.

Please stop. Everyone laughs at you when you say bullies of the big ten. Maybe the bullied of the big ten, but certainly not bullies anymore. At least ever since Phil Parker took over.

Yes you can. "The Bullied of the FCS."

The point is/was that Iowa - a program built of physical play, preparation and intensity - was beaten by a team that did it better Saturday.

That doesn't mean cancel the season. It doesn't mean the program is in disarray.

At least for myself, 'Bullies of the Big Ten' went away with 'next man in' mantra somewhere around 2005.

You are correct the season is not over, but the loss was so disheartening. The Rutgers game can't get here fast enough.

I respectfully disagree. You don't recover from a loss, to an FCS school, no matter how good, at home. NDSU whipped Iowa's ass and took their manhood, something Wisconsin will do at a better level. Will be lucky to win 9 games this season and anything less than 9 is another bust of a season, especially when you're trying to appear as a credible program to better talented recruits. If this disaster continues, it will start costing Iowa committed recruits. Iowa desperately needs to validate last year's success by winning at least 9 games, especially with what was thought to be such a fortuitous schedule. I think it's the initial crack in the foundation for this year's season and that's what so damn disappointing. MSU and Wisconsin have each had runs in the last decade where they have validated the previous season's success. Iowa, on the other hand, cannot seem to build off any momentum and get their shit together.

It was a bad loss. That's no disrespect to NDSU, who, as I wrote, are better than plenty of teams Iowa's played in the last decade. They're better than ISU, Miami (Ohio), Purdue and Illinois this season. But Iowa should win that game at home. And they should be able to match the other team's intensity.

I'm just not ready to say the season is over after 1 loss. I'm interested to see how a team with a lot of good players from last year's 12-2 team responds.

I don't disagree with what you are saying I am just a glass half full guy. Trust me, I am not trying to spin yesterday's loss. The loss was troubling it raises some red flags, no doubt.

If this 2016 team had aspirations of making it to the Playoff, then this season is over from that perspective. There simply is no chance that a team that loses to a FCS school will even be considered for a playoff spot. Winning the B1G Championship is still in play, but WUs, kNU, UM, MSU and OSU have to be favorites, now.

The entire football world now has all the proof they need that this staff doesn't know how to coach from a position of being a nationally favored team and with those expectations to win each week. Last year, people couldn't wait for Iowa to lose, this season was Iowa's chance to prove they can win when expectations were high.
