Howard to LA

Howard is the best center in the NBA by a wide margin. Put him with Kobe and Nash and you have yourself a title contender.

no because you need a quality head coach and la lacks that

Phil is gone, y'all. Never coming back. Get used to not winning titles.

This trade makes no sense for Orlando... I don't get it at all. If they were gonna get raped why not wait till the deadline.

Disagree and Im no Laker fan. Phill would certainly make a huge difference but Steve Nash is one of the smartest players in the NBA if anyone doesn't need a coach its him.

Howards presence on defense and rebounding alone is a gigantic upgrade.

A Nash Howard pick n roll will be almost impossible to defend. All you really need is someone to convince Kobe to step aside and let those two do their thing.

Right now you have to say the Lakers are the odds on favorite.

Care to wager a buck or two on the final outcome of next season?
I'll take Miami to repeat. You take teh Laker.
$100?

- Kobe is coming off his worst shooting season since 1997
- Nash is coming off his worst 3 point shooting season since 1998
- Howard has pretty much no developed offensive game
- No lights out 3 point shooters to space the floor and let Dwight go to work
- Both Kobe and Nash are worse defensively than they have ever been in their careers

Not really. The reason the Nash/Amare pick and roll was so effective was because Amare was capable of popping and knocking down 20 foot jumpers. Couple the fact that Howard can only roll, with the fact that Nash's 3 pt percentage has dropped three years in a row, and I have a feeling it will be less effective than most people think. Throw in the fact that Kobe is turning into a chucker and is very inefficient offensively, and you have the makings of an extremely disappointing offense.

I think the Lakers are the favorites in the West and when they sign barbosa for instant offense off the bench that will be big. Not sure if they can beat Miami but they will give them one hell of a go at it

Big thing here is that LA was able to keep Gasol. Now they have the best defensive big man in the league and one of the most skilled offensive big men in the league.

Also picked up Jamison to come off the bench, possibly start over Artest. Great team guy who averaged 17 points a game last year.

You sound old, and you also sound like you have busted ballz.

Howard is overrated. Defenses can just foul him every time. Has there been a worse free throw shooter? I would have to try to miss 60% of my FTs.

The NBA is starting to look like MLB. The big market teams can buy the talent they want to build a Champion.

Not nearly as fun as the NFL or NHL where the bad teams get first chance to rebuild and there's more of a rotating balance of power.

The reason it was/is so effective is Nashs jump shot not AS. Most PGs aren't content or able to kill you on a jumper but Nash can. Most Pgs are trying to get pentration on their picks.

Whoever the biggs defender is always has to "show" hard to stop Nash from hitting the jumper and in that instant he either slips the pass or if the defender dosen;t show hard enough he hits the J.

IMO its only going to be more effective with a Howard Gassol combo.

And Nash has had 3 straight years of declining 3FG%, culminating in his lower percentage in over a decade.

And Amare's ability to knock down a perimeter jump shot most certainly does make the pick and roll more effective. No team in the history of basketball has one way of defending the P'nR, consisting solely of the big showing. Most teams mix it up, either hedging, blitzing, jamming, switching (rarely on PG/big screens), etc. When the big setting the ball screen can mix up rolling and popping, or reading the defender before choosing, it becomes nearly impossible for the defense to get comfortable with one of these methods, which in turn makes the P'nR more difficult to defend. Nash's shooting ability certainly plays a big part in its effectiveness, but to dismiss the other aspect of it is foolish.
