Currently #4 nationally for Special Teams efficiency according to Football outsiders:

#1 last year, #16 in 2018, #16 in 2017, #7 in 2016 (when Levar took over the unit, though he did not become the official "coordinator" until 2017).

For comparison, they were 98th, 77th, 62nd, and 49th the 4 years prior with Chris White primarily in charge.

Get Levar Woods a raise.

I'd be interest to see the guys that have been on our best special teams units in the past few years, if they end up being studs when the crack the lineup, or if they're a bunch of Steve Taskers.

Why not give him a promotion? Coach-in-waiting.

Charlie Jones...what a difference maker. He can change field position so quickly and he makes good decisions. Someone should have thumped that Illinois moron who cheap shotted him Saturday. That's the most egregious hit in football. A guy is looking up waiting for a ball and you have a 30-40 yard run and you clock him. Those were the type of hits my teammates and I would pay back during the course of a game. That dude would have gotten blindsided a couple of times...and we would let him know why and it ain't over for him until the game is.

It's also more then the obvious. It's not just the longer punts it's the coverage on them. When's the last time anyone returned a kick on us for a significant amount? Those guys run hard stay in their lanes and don't stay blocked. I was half pissed when we had a penalty called on us on a return. Not committing penalties is also a part of it usually we do a good job of that too.

I think on punt and kickoff returns the officials just automatically expect a penalty to occur, throw a flag, then look around for somebody to blame. Any time I see a good return, I just assume a flag will follow.
