How many times are we allowed to discuss the same thing?

On a different post I was reading that fans should not come on and p--- and moan about the same thing after every game. That it's been heard before. I posted this reply and someone suggested that maybe this should be a post itself. So will try that. I replied to the above comment with this post:

Ok, if people can't come on and post that things need to get better and Lick isn't doing the job, then the people that say things are getting better can't post either (because there have been many posts on that too) so I guess Close Down the message boards because it has all been said before.

If one side is allowed to post and start new posts then the other side is allowed to post and start new posts. Of course it has all been said before, but if sides can't express their opinions then it is like giving up and accepting the other side. Posters have the right to state and restate their opinions. If you don't like what is said, don't read, or don't answer, but please don't say they can't say it because they have said it before.

I would quit posting the same things if Licklovers would just stop acting like we're on the verge of turning the corner everytime we win a game. I'm sure Licklovers would stop making the same post if some of us would stop calling for Lickliters head. I'm guessing this cycle is going to continue until Lickliter gets fired.

This two post thread is an example of how far Barta and everyoneassociated with Iowa basketball has to go. Iowa fans have been a fractured family for more than 7 years. Some people can't even have a discussion anymore.

The conversations are all circular because all conversations devolve into the same discussion over time. There are factions who have an agenda, and they are here to push that agenda. When called out on it, they will simply blame the other side (see Reign's post above), and use that as a another point to push their agenda.

If there is any ambiguity in what I said, just look up every post I wrote last week, when I pretty much laid it all out.

Hawkeye Basketball! The passion is back!

I would love to talk about all the good things that happening with Iowa bb, where do we think we will be seeded in the Big 10 tournament and how far do people think we will make it; where do we think we will be seeded in the NCAA and where do we think we will be playing; the next big game against an upper level division team in the Big 10 and maybe slipping into 3rd or 2nd place in the Big 10 or even 1st place and do we think we can win the Big 10.

I would love to talk about how some of our players make the opposition look sick or how our defense just smothers the opposition, or how we just pound the boards like there is no tomorrow and get so many offensive put backs. I would love to discuss how Iowa is 22-3 or 21-4 or even 19-6 and starting to peak at the right time for the tournaments. I would love to talk about our coaching staff bringing in big star recruits that are interested in coming to Iowa to play. I would love to talk about games where we go on big runs and have fast breaks finishing with spectacular plays.

But Ghost, when will we see any of this again in the future? Three years, five years? maybe?

The best we have to talk about is when Iowa plays just as poor a teams as Iowa, then Iowa looks pretty good but that is probably a case where both teams athletes are about equal, wouldn't you say. Then we play teams like Purdue and they hand us our head or they get a lead and half-way through the game and result of the game is never really in doubt who is going to win.

So what else do we have to talk about??? The worst run in Iowa history with the worst coach? His record speaks for itself...

Well said. Believe me, I am sick of talking about all of this crap, too. I wish we could talk about how well Iowa is doing, and how we hope Lickliter never leaves because he's brought us to levels we haven't often seen like Kirk Ferentz, and I'd like to speculate on who our first our 2nd round NCAA opponent might be, but that's not the reality of the situation. Right now, we're in a horrible run of basketball.

I don't care if people want to try and point out some of things that make them think things are about to turn around. I may or may not agree, but it's fine. I think just as long as both sides are allowed their opinions, and everybody remains civil about it, that is fair.

Yes, the negativity sucks. But as NewMexico pointed out, how much else is there to talk about? If the negative posters stuck a cork in it and went away, these boards would be dead right now. We could talk about how good next year "might" be, but at present, this is what we have. I am not going to pretend to be happy. I call it as I see it.

Yep. You were either anti-Alford or you're Pro-Alford. Because of the last 5 years or so of the Alford Years people are less than willing to give Lick any slide. Now you're either anti-Lick or pro-Lick. There's no middle ground. You can't even be the middle ground guy wanting either/both coach and program to succeed.

I remember the debate that use to come up when Ferentz got here as to whether or not the cupboard was bare. That was the same rehashed discussion for three years or so.

I don't know if I'm in the anti or pro crowd when it comes to Lickliter. I simply don't want any more team turnover and at some point he's got to be the one held accountable.

Yes, it does seem some people think everything is so absolute. You're either a lover or a hater. That's nonsense. There are a few people that are in those extremes, but I think the vast majority of us are somewhere in the middle.

I can't say I am pro-Lickliter, but that doesn't mean I don't want him to succeed. It only means that, at present, I don't have very much faith in this coaching staff. I DO hope they prove me wrong. But if they don't, then I want to see Barta go in a different direction and give someone else a shot at some point.

Right now, there is also a division between the fans who just want wins and the fans who want wins along with exciting basketball as well. Just one more thing for us to fight about. :)

I agree with NewMexico. I would love to be talking about the positives. Even if the positives were how much we were improving game to game and how the future looks bright. But we have seen this every year under Lick. We start to look a little better towards the end and every one starts getting their hopes up. Then we have transfers, or players regress in their development, or something else happens and the next season we are starting back from mediocrity again.

The difference between now and the SA days is no one really has any animosity towards Lick. Some of us just don't think he can get it done in the Big Ten. And he hasn't shown us anything this season to change that opinion.
