How many reps does Wiegers get next yr?

Will CJ get every single one like Vandenberg did that year? Only difference being CJ will be a junior not a senior. Now I'm asking this under the pretenses of he not getting hurt and not playing so poorly that benching him isn't really a choice. I'm saying it along the lines of team success. If the team is as mediocre as is predicted might Wiegers get in there some? Or dare I suggest either of the incoming freshmen? I'd think it'll be tough to get either of them ready over Wiegers who has a years head start. I don't know what they'll do but my point for bringing this up is just to show that just about every year you can have this QB playing time debate come up. The year Vandenberg played every snap was rare yet this year could possibly set up that way with CJ. And if so will that be good or bad...

Sunshine will get hurt at some point. He likes to take off and run.
Weigers will get some snaps. Hope he's ready.

Depends, how many Option plays will GD/KF call for CJB? It's one of the more baffling playcalls I've seen out of this staff.

He is not a pure runner. He's got some wheels, but that doesn't mean he's an option QB. Let him move around the pocket, roll outs, PA....move the pocket....

but don't make him our primary ball carrier

Yea I agree. And surely without Rudock they'll not do that anymore..... (Maybe hell I dunno) I agree he can move pretty well. But he's no Braxton Miller. And just think OSU can use any of their 3 qbs however they'd like knowing they have 2 studs right behind em... It's almost not fair...

I'm sure Boyle and Cook won't get any snaps. I could see Weigers getting some reps if we are blowing someone out maybe even if we're getting blown out. The odds of us putting it on big enough to allow Weigers in seems doubtful. I'm pretty sure he'll some snaps but not many.

Was that not most of our thought processes for the year Vandenberg got them all? JR was a redshirt frosh at the time and we thought he'd get some garbage reps but noooope. He came in green as could be 2 yrs ago. If Ferentz does that would that be he admitting that was wrong?

I would think he would but Kirk will probably hold him out rather than admit he made a mistake. As Kirk says, that's football and as the Hawkeye fans say, that's Kirk.

Well hopefully he runs out of bounds most of the time before contact.

I thought his 82 yards net rushing against tennessee was pretty damn good considering how fast their Dee is.

I think this is a good question that predicts a very clear answer: If Iowa can put away some lesser teams early in the season, the coaches will get TW some playing time, even if it is in mop up. If we are in close games early and have to struggle to win, they will have to stay with CJ.

Lest we forget, TW came to Iowa as a major "get." He is a four star QB that was pretty highly sought after by some very good programs. He is a pro style QB, which is what Iowa is about, right or wrong. He is 6'4" and weighs round 220 pounds and had a rep in hs for delivering a pretty good shot to defenders when he ran the ball.

CJ will likely be the starter for 2 years, so they can bring TW along slowly. I would have been less worried about an injury to CJ if JR would have returned, but I really think TW will be a very capable back up. He has had a year of study and has spring and fall camp to get the second largest number of reps.

He may be a very strong QB before his career at Iowa is over.

KF likes to play really close games no matter the competition so Im guessing that he won't see the field unless CJB gets hurt.

Yeah.

doesn't matter, he'll be the best qb on the roster

For those that keep repeating this mantra as some sort of criticism against the fans that clearly saw that CJ was the better fit for GD's offense than JR, apparently, didn't notice that JR truly struggled in key area's of operating the passing offense: such as arm strength, deep ball accuracy, the ability to throw a receiver open and simply missing wide open receivers, deep, on an alarmingly consistent manner, and checking down too quickly.

But, as you know, this is the United States of America and you have every right to freedom of speech.

It's not just that. Some fans were dumb enough to think Banks was better than McCann. Boy were they proven wrong then.

Yeah, I'm sure Banks was horrible until his first snap of his SR season and then it just magically clicked, due to the benefit of rarely playing the previous season. Good call, PC. :D

I hope your right.... I think the way the schedule plays out maybe Iowa blows out Illinois st week 1. (hard to have much faith in that since whens the last time Iowa's O clicked right out of the gates and they blew someone out?) Then they have ISU at their place and as bad as they are I can say pretty confidently win or lose it won't be a blowout. So I don't see Wiegers getting many if any reps early. I'm with you as far as breaking down Wiegers. He's a big strong armed kid. I went to games early last yr and saw him in warm ups. He's got a gun and nice touch...(for what little that's worth) So I would love to see him get reps when it's warranted. We'll just have to see how it plays out and spring ball should be interesting I'll be paying attention to how they both look for sure.

Yet, according to many here, GD's offense excels at the 3 yard sideline route when we need 8 yards for a first down. He needs arm strength and deep ball accuracy to hit that 3 yard sideline route? Hey, ArvadaHawk, not calling you out. Just asking what to some posters want? (To me, they want it both ways)
