How good was King? This good!

Saw this article on the draft. Most of you may or may not have seen it. Talks about possible picks for the Patriots. My loathing of almost everything Pats aside......interesting stuff in here on Desmond King. Found the stats show just how good he was for us. Opponents Qb rating against him is exactly what you want from a shut down corner. Some other good assessment as well.

Interestingly enough, King's height and combine times line-up almost identically to Malcolm Butler's. Not saying King will be the next Malcolm Butler, but its an interesting comparable. He could definitely make an impact in the nickle, and he's not afraid to be physical.

His ability to return punts shouldn't be overlooked either. He's not a burner or shifty and probably wont break off any long return TD's, but he was pretty reliable.

For those who don't want to read the whole article here's the highlights: (11 missed tackles in 176 solo attempts). A four-year starter in coach Kirk Ferentz's program, he held quarterbacks to a rating of below 50.0 in each of the last two seasons

I think people overvalue speed in the punt return game. Kick return is more reliant on straight-line speed, but the punt return is about making the first 1-2 guys miss then finding the crease, and cutting back if needed.

Micah Hyde is far from a burner as well, but he made a very good punt return man in Green Bay. I can see the same kind of skills in King.

I think an NFL corner, but the consensus seems to be that he will move to FS in the NFL because of speed.

Who ever gets him is going to get a stud. It sounds like he won't go in the first round or maybe even 2nd. But he'll be a difference making play maker for years making him an absolute steal of a pick if he falls to the 3rd round or lower. You can't tell me he isn't capable of playing as well as Hyde is now right? So what would Hyde be worth if he was being redrafted this year knowing what he's been able to do? Bet it's higher than a 3rd round pick...

Micah Hyde is not "far" from a burner. He all but "made" his draftability when he ran down Venric Mark--considered a "burner"--from a several-yard deficit against NW in 2012.

Have to agree with that - Hyde was the fastest player on the field that day. Didn't hurt his stock earlier in the great come from behind victory over Pitt in 2011 either. Or teaming up w/ Sash (RIP) against Sparty back in 2010. The guy is a playmaker.

I would totally be OK with my Philadelphia Eagles picking up King with their 3rd round pick. We definitely need the secondary help. I don't know if he'll drop that low though.
