How does coaching 2 kids play out?

I think it creates some issues with coaching your kid. I think it was a problem for Alford and the guy at New Mexico who was Alford's assistant whos kid ended up transferring. so how will it will be with the strong likely hood of 2 kids playing a major role? I dont know what the relationship is between McCaffrey and his players but I do know the guy has a terrible temper. I just think the addition of 2 of his own kids into the mix could make for a delicate coaching d situation and Im not real sure hoe that plays out

Probably can be done but not often. McDermott?

Ingredients

Non Hot Head Coach....
Kids who engage on social media
Unknown real assessment of talent.
Kids that don't like contact
One kid playing position without likely D1 P5 PG starting skill
Wife and mother of perimenopausal or menopausal age.
Coach on hot seat with mediocre results.
Wife who has history of being escorted out of sports venues.

What could possibly go wrong?

Well the Iowa fan base will jump all over anything negative or positive for that matter dealing with his two kids play.
Will be interesting to see what happens. There is a wide range of scenarios for the next few years. I'm still hoping they can help reel in a big time recruit.

His saving grace can be and will only be is if his kids are really good. I don't think CM is going to a great player. He seems like a left handed Jeff Horner style of player that won't look to score as much. Which wouldn't be bad by any means. We could use that. If the younger brother turns out to be a top 20ish player in his class and puts on some weight then we'll all be on the band wagon because he doesn't seem to be a ball hoggish type of player so much as he just plays within the flow of the games.

I actually worry about how Weiskamp will fit in. He's going from getting every touch and every shot to maybe not starting and very most likely not being the #1 option out there. It'd be nice if he is both of those things but to expect that day 1 is going to be unrealistic.

For now I'm looking on the bright side....at least they come with accolades and awards instead of lickliters kid

I think Fran needs to be extra quick to pull them when they aren't doing well. And be extra harsh on them in his interviews. At least for the first month or so. Needs to set a tone (spin).

As someone who coached his boys, I can tell you I was way harder on them than the other guys. Fran might be the same.
I was the same.

But then there are just as many examples of Dad-coaches who think his kids do no wrong and play too much.

So who knows?

Potentially, it could be a no win situation. Dick Vitale, many years ago when he was relevent, once stated the coaching your son was "usually a can of worms waiting to be pried open."

For the record, Tom Davis' son Keno was a student manager. So was Bruce Pearl at Boston College under Davis, for that matter. We would have been spared some embarrassing moments if John Lickliter was a student manager.

Don't think McDermott is a good comparison. He was likely one of the best players in the history of the Creighton program. That makes it easy.

I think it'll be fine honestly, especially if they can win enough. If Iowa continues to miss the tourney it might be pretty brutal.

That seems to be the case most of the time at the HS/JR high level for sure. Hard telling at the college D1 level. It probably depends on how good the kid is. I mean if your kid is like McDermotts than that provides a different set of challenges. But if your kid is a middle of the road starter or even off the bench like CM is going to be it makes me wonder how that dynamic might be. Then plug in a second son who seems to be the more celebrated/highly decorated of the two who should be a 'star' it'll just be interesting to see.
I'm trying to remember another coach who had 2 bros on the team at the same time. Kansas had the Morris Twins Stanford had the Lopez twins. In both cases the players played the same positions but their coaches weren't their Dads. Their was Alford, did his boys overlap at all? The one son was a benchwarmer and the other was pretty good but I can't remember if they overlapped and took up 2 schollies at the same time. I can't remember off the top of my head about any others. Fran doesn't seem like the favoritism type. But it'll be a while longer before we'll know for sure. And how good is the team around them?
