He's proven to be a good coach. Has had great success the last few years with his own players and can win the big game.

thanks, but no thanks. ben has my respect which i'm sure he was searching for but at this point he just isn't a fit at Iowa.

same, lets not go that route...I need some up tempo basketball...his style may work, but after the last 3 years I just can't sit around and watch that anymore.

How many Jacobson threads do we need?

Great success and ability to Win the Big Game?? - He has won what, two MVC title games against what most consider to be a weaker MVC the past few years.

Sorry, but in my opinion, no, he is not what we need at Iowa.

We need a coach that will excite the HAWKEYE NATION day one. Jacobsen will not do that. While some may want to see him get the chance, he is not a hire that will excite the fanbase.

We need a coach that understands what it takes to win at the Major college level, not at the mid-major level. A coach that runs a more entertaining style what will fill more seats at CHA year one.

We need a coach that has been battling in the trenches of the recruiting wars for the top players not those that are going to go to mid-majors. The results of that type of recruiting for the past 10+ years is fairly clear.

If we cannot lure a big name coach to Iowa (in no certain order), i.e. - Pearl, Gillespie, Williams, Barbee, then we need to look at the top level major assistants/lead recruiters, i.e. - Forbes, Pastner.

A UNI hire hasn't worked out very well for Iowa St. and this wouldn't be any better.

This might be the dumbest reason not to hire him. Every coach has to come from somewhere. Some work out some don't. I'm starting to think whoever is hired that the majority are going to be dissapointed because it isn't a BIG name.

How about you scroll through the 15 pages where his name is already mentioned....

"If a victory over #1 Kansas he does acquire, Ben Jacobson is the coach that Iowa must next hire".

I know guys look and say he has had success. This is the B10 and it is not the MVC, anyway you slice it is not the same animal. NO

I guess I don't understand this argument. There are so many examples of it working and NOT working when a coach goes from MM to HM that I think it probably has more to do with WHO the coach is rather than where he came from.

As far as I am concerned, this argument begins and ends with the coach's style of play. Iowa MUST hire a coach that plays a high scoring, up-tempo style. Its what Iowa fans are used to and what we are SCREAMING to get back to.

With basketball ticket sales being the big need in the Iowa AD's office, Barta has to hire someone who will excite the fan base without having to do much of a sales job. Excitement = ticket sales. A coach with a half-court slow-playing style ain't gonna excite anyone, or at least enough people,as good as a coach as he may be.

There is no doubt in my mind that Ben Jacobsen is a very good basketball coach. He is not the only very good basketball coach out there, though. Why don't we go after a very good coach who wants to run and gun instead of stopping our search before we even leave the borders of our state?
