How bad is the SEC? Alabama in 1st place

For those of you that don't recall. Iowa beat Alabama by 8 points earlier this year. We are in last in the Big Ten. The Big Ten is solid top to bottom this year but outside of OSU, Purdue, and Wisconsin lacks any real threats to make a NCAA run. But we're still a hell of a lot better conference than the SEC.

Never thought I'd say this, but in defense of the SEC I"ve never heard them credited as a basketball powerhouse. I guess once the football teams are done blowing all their money on buying recruits there's nothing left in the hopper for the basketball programs.

This. It's Florida, Kentucky, and Tennessee the overwhelming majority of the time, on top. It drops off fast after that.

Also, Alabama's schedule has been pretty weak up to this point (the West is AWFUL). It picks up down the stretch.

SEC schools have won 5 national titles in the last 20 years. The Big Ten has 1.

The SEC has been really bad the last couple of years, much like the Pac 10. They won't continue to be this bad, but right now it's pretty ugly. Jerry Palm says Bama is clearly out of the NCAA Tourney if it started today. That's saying something.

Man, I wish the Big Ten was using Legends and Leaders for basketball as well. Nebraska, Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State and Northwestern isn't exactly a murderer's row at the moment.

Valid point. Wasn't turning it into a "B10 vs. SEC" issue, because I don't believe in the whole our conference is superior crap. Alll I was getting at is the fact that the SEC is generally not referred to as a basketball powerhouse, and you never hear their basketball programs get the same type of buttkissing as they do in the fall. Didn't mean to touch on a sore subject sorry if I hurt any feelings.
