Would a GA job at Iowa be a step up for Settles? I am not sure what he is doing now, but he has got to be pushing 40...I see Horner as good for that job, but if Settles can't get anything other than a low level GA job do we really want him?
Is there anybody who just finished their playing days who we would want on the staff? Horner or Haluska would be the two most recent guys that I would clammor for.
Isn't Haluska in Cedar Rapids now? I thought I saw him in the paper a couple of weeks ago? I know I said in a previous post that I don't really care who the GA is but Iowa bball has me excited again.
I think people are forgetting that the GA spot goes to a graduate student and is not just given out to anyone. Whoever takes this position has to apply to and be admitted to the U of Iowa. They need to have a field of study and need to have the qualifications to be in that field of study. So the commitment is one of more than just working with the bb team. It has a student commitment and going to classes and making progress toward a degree. There has been mention on one site that maybe Fran won't fill this spot. Or maybe he waits to fill it after knowing who the graduate student pool is. It might be taking awhile to fill as the candidates have to be admitted and be in school. When I worked at the U our graduate student wasn't assigned until after classes started.
I have always had a man-crush on Settles. He is an incredible guy. And he's not pushing 40--he's only 35 or so Horner would be great, but if I have to vote, it's going to be Settles.
