Obviously they coach different sports. I bring this up because I see some discussion of this being brought up. Or, is there really any difference?
I see both of these coaches keeping Iowa competitive. I think Dr.Tom was more aggressive in schemes, but he did become a bit predictable, and recruiting was probably ok to pretty good, but not necessarily top flight.
I think everything is the same for Ferentz, except he has more conservative schemes along with his coordinators. Ferentz can claim he actually has some Big Ten titles.
Personally, I didn't want Davis gone at the time in 98 because I thought we were starting to build up again and had a decent returning team (that made it all the way to the sweet 16).
However, at this point in time, I find myself still wanting Ferentz here, but I am leaning more towards some change in the assistant ranks.
I know change does not always work out. We only have to look to our past 2 coaching hires in basketball on that. But, we can't be afraid to make changes either.
So, how do we go about things without turning it into a Tom Davis like situation. How do we balance the good and out with the bad without making things look ugly. Or, do we just need to stay the course? Thoughts?
