Home Opener vs. Tenn Tech

Just a quick question for all the IC gameday veterans on here. Been going to select Hawkeye games for about 10 years now and the home opener will be my first time taking my kids. Since i'm not a Iowa grad and have never lived in IC, i was wondering if there are any sort of football game related activities on friday or saturday morning that my kids might enjoy. Pep Rally or something of the sort. My gameday experiences have pretty much been spent with beer in hand and not that i won't have that this trip also, i would like to find something my kids might enjoy besides the game itself. Any suggestions or websites currently out would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

FOOTBALL FANS! Join us for our game day Pregame Concerts. These free concerts are always held in the Recreation Building one hour and fifteen minutes prior to the scheduled kick-off. The HMB Drumline will "warm-up" outside the Recreation Building 30 minutes prior to our concert.

This would be a good idea and another would be to stand outside the South entrance by the Nile Kinnick statue by 9 am and have your kids watch the team get off the bus and go into the stadium and if you are close enough maybe they can get a couple of high fives from the players as they are walking in.
 
The first weekend is becoming the annual FryFest weekend in Coralville, which is staged at the new Marriot in Coralville off I-80.

Here is the event schedule:

We have gone out there on Friday night the last couple years. They have a "Tradeshow" going on all day which is people selling basically anything you could desire with a Hawkeye on it. There is a pep rally at 5:30pm which includes the band and cheerleaders. I think last year they had the 1985 team on hand for a 25 year reunion, so some of them were announced at the pep rally. This year's FryFest is mostly dedicated to Dan Gable, so I imagine he'll be at the rally.

There is a concert at night that you may want to attend if your kids are old enough.

How could I forget about Fry Fest? Not only were members of the '85 team present, but also the '60 team (IIRC), and they signed autographs (I was pretty stoked to get an "x" from Larry Station). Podalak was also there pitching Jim Zabel's book to people, and he was more than happy to sign the football that all the other former players signed. And there really are a lot of cool Hawkeye trinkets around there to buy. All in all, a very cool event.
 
Thanks for all the input guys. My kids are 4 and 8, and I really want to try and give them somewhat more of an experience than what Kinnick Stadium already will be. Most of my home games are guy trips where a tailgate, a 12 pack and a hawkeye win with the hawkeye faithful are normally good enough entertainment for me, but wouldn't mind taking in something different for a change. FryFest sounds awesome and I think the kids will love seeing the marching band. Thanks again!

Enjoy the experience. Sounds like they are at the age now where they can appreciate the festivities and hopefully they will continue your tradition of bleeding black and gold ...
