HN Podcast: Breaking Down Ferentz January Presser

Kirk Ferentz said he called a press conference for Wednesday because he felt like he and the media needed to talk...which means he needed to convey some things to the fan base. He did that for nearly 39 minutes. Some of it was revealing (for a Ferentz press conference), some of it confusing and some of it some different shades of meh. Here are my thoughts on what went down, why it went down and what's next:

I don't recall hearing anything to energize Hawkeye fans or (unfortunately) Hawkeye players. This entire situation is just disappointing.

Results are what matters and all We hear from KF is excuses. I got the impression that KF is asking for even more time to turn this around and he is in for a rude awakening because it's just not happening the heat is going to continue to build and build and build.

Sadly KF is now entering the phase of hurting his legacy.

You've all been whining and ******** for God knows how long about how KF is complacent... makes too much money... doesn't care what fans think... isn't interested in winning... ad nauseum.

So, the guy calls a press conference in January... never done before... clearly states that he understands the program needs improvement... clearly says that he has to do a better job... clearly states that it's time for a few needed changes... etc.

Here's a thought... he has publicly acknowledged your concerns and vowed to make corrective changes. How about we give it a rest and give the guy a chance.

It's not like his record hasn't earned him a chance.

I think most of the frustration is with Kirk talking about starting to do things this offseason that people feel he should of already been doing over the past 4 years. A popular term in the past has been "In Kirk We Trust" cause everyone trusted Kirk to know and do what's best. He admitted yesterday that he hasn't been doing that...mostly cause he's a good guy who tries to accommodate. I sincerely hope he does turn it around cause I've really liked Kirk over the years, but the frustration with the state of the program is valid. Going with Kirk's comments yesterday, it's more than fair to say he hasn't been coaching to the best of his ability in recent years.

Scooter there comes a point where someone is doing more harm than good and we've clearly come to that point.


SINCE 2005 (10 Years) KF has finished 4th or worse in the Big Ten Standings 7 times. Your happy with that?

Lastly is this and what I got from the Presser..
So the changes that KF feels the program needs is more of him and that the issues we've been having are because he hasn't been involved like he should be.. Let that sink in for a second...
