HN Podcast B1G Recap - WTF?!

I'm not normally a "gotcha" poster, but Deace, the self-described "savant" of all things college football, completely blew it in the podcast today. I didn't get a chance to hear the entire thing, so I don't know if they corrected it later in the podcast or not.....

But Deace was talking about Michigan (I know, right...) and was saying that if both Michigan and MSU won out that his opinion was that Michigan would be the East representative in the B1G CG because he thought they'd have a better CFP ranking than MSU. Earth to Steve.....If both Michigan and Sparty won out, they'd have identical conference records of 7-1 (OSU would be 6-2) and Sparty would get the nod on the basis of their head-to-head win over Michigan (the first tiebreaker). The CFP rankings would have nothing to do with it. I know he's looking for any angle to get his beloved Wolverines in, but that ain't one of them. The only way they get in is if they win out and OSU beats Sparty.

"The following procedure will determine the representative from each division in the event of a tie:
(a) If two teams are tied, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.
(b) If three or more teams are tied, steps 1 through 7 will be followed until a determination is made. If only two teams remain tied after any step, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.
1. The records of the three tied teams will be compared against each other.
2. The records of the three tied teams will be compared within their division.
3. The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of finish (4, 5, 6, and 7).
4. The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents.
5. The highest ranked team in the first College Football Playoff poll following the completion of Big Ten regular season conference play shall be the representative in the Big Ten Championship Game, unless the two highest ranked tied teams are ranked within one spot of each other in the College Football Playoff poll. In this case, the head-to-head results of the top two ranked tied teams shall determine the representative in the Big Ten Championship Game.
6. The team with the best overall winning percentage [excluding exempted games] shall be the representative.
7. The representative will be chosen by random draw.

So If Michigan State and Michigan both win out that would leave them both at 7-1 and tied for the division lead. tOSU would have 2 division losses and out of the picture. The rankings wouldn't come into play.

Who cares?

I'm sure he just mis-spoke. Nothing to get indignant over.

I enjoy listening to the Podcasts. However you have to understand that Steve believes the U of Michigan is the greatest institution, FB team, lawn dart team, etc., that has ever been created. He can't help interjecting an air of superiority any time UM comes up. U just have to know that going in. I don't even think he went to school there, but the man is a believer. And....there is nothing wrong with that. Every big school has legions of this type of fan, although some more than others.

I'm not sure what Deace was talking about. If MSU beats OSU and Michigan beats OSU, the Michigan and MSU are tied with 1 loss apiece and MSU beat Michigan so they go to the Championship game. If OSU beats MSU, and Michigan beats OSU then Michigan goes to the championship game.

Im not seeing a scenario in which all 3 can have one lose all to each other since MSU dropped a game a Nebby. Am I missing something as the only way the rankings come in play is a 3 way tie at the top.

Crap...I am gonna have to let Deace know that he made a mistake ;)

It is great that when he makes one, there is a WTF reference, as if it was either an affront to mankind, or that you are just shocked he made a mistake

ahhhhh ..1Hawkeye broke it down earlier on his post inside this thread:

Well, Deace is a UM fan and leans right politically

all one needs to know

Oh my gosh, in a 30-minute podcast, Deace said something wrong.
Torches and pitchforks from the HN.

Yeah, now that HN is cumulatively responsible for New Kirk and for the #5 ranking, they're getting carried away with just how much clout they have accumulated and are now going after everyone with an agenda. Er, wait a minute...

Deace looks like a young Peter Griffin from Family Guy. I do really, really enjoy the podcasts, especially when Iowa is undefeated.
