HN: Hawks Let Buckeyes Off the Hook

One of these days we got to stop letting the Buckeyes off the Hook and make them pay. Hopefully it'll be in November with National Championship implications. But it would of been nice tonight.

That was a good game last night. I still wish we would finish a fast break sometime but I have to get over that I guess.

I think Matta did some fine coaching the last 5 minutes of the game by mixing up his defenses. I think he confused our guys and they were unable to adjust to the switching defenses and that is when OSU took over the game.

At the time I thought Iowa was trying to slow the game down because we were leading but in hindsight it was the switching defenses that threw Iowa's offense off and they just couldn't adjust and thus, couldn't get any decent shots. Then OSU got some easy shots and it was basically game over.

Too bad because it was just a stretch of a couple minutes where OSU just confused Iowa and took over the game. If we had a go to player or a quick experienced point guard at that point of the game we probably win the game (OSU has three or four and that is the difference in the game last night).

Still having trouble with this style of low scoring games although I enjoy watching the players play hard.

I just hope that Lick is honest and acknowledges that we need another mature ball-handler on this team next year to actually leapfrog enough teams in the league to make the NIT minimum and save his job.

If we have a Kaylon Williams on this team last nite, I think Hawks win. He could have guarded Lighty who was too quick for Fuller on the perimeter. He could have handled the pressure late in the game with Cully helping...and he could have penetrated that pressure and finish at the rim to make them pay. If not Williams, another juco guard that is ready to play right away, please Lick. Tucker would not have filled that role last nite...he is neither that great a ballhandler nor a good defender...

Sorry to nitpick, but I have to point out the unnecessary apostrophe in "Lets" on the front page. Pet peeve.

The switch that OSU made to the zone was the difference in the game. With only one ball handler in the game late it makes it very difficult to break a press. I think this was the difference late in the game.
