IOWA CITY, Iowa – Linn-Mar Senior Point Guard Jordan Bohannon helped pack the house here at West High Friday night. The Iowa signee even drew half the Hawkeye team to the gym along with Head Coach Fran McCaffery and Assistant Kirk Speraw.
McCaffery attends as many Trojan games as he can with his sons Conner and Patrick on the team. Friday afforded him a chance to watch a player at a position of need next year.
Iowa graduates point guards Mike Gesell and Anthony Clemmons after this season. Freshman Christian Williams is the only other lead guard on the roster. Bohannon should factor into the equation next season.

EVALUATION: We all love comps, don’t we? As someone who covers recruiting, I get asked about them and have them presented to me regularly.
I tried that with Bohannon, thinking about present and former Hawkeyes. In the end, he reminded me of his brothers, Jason, Zach and Matt, the sons of former Iowa Quarterback Gordy Bohannon.
Jordan Bohannon offers that deep shooting range that Jason and Matt possess. They all release the ball quickly and wiggle free with jab steps and step-backs.
If I was going to compare Jordan to anybody on the Iowa roster now it would Gesell when he was in high school. Gesell was more of scorer with good handles that developed into a pass-first guy. Jordan will need to continue to progress that way as well.
That’s not to say Bohannon can’t pass. He does a nice jog of finding the open man when he draws help defense. He does force the ball at times and must continue to work on identifying when to shoot or pass.
Bohannon is not a point guard that’s going to blind you with speed. But he does a nice job finishing at the rim and has a pretty good first step.
Defensively, Bohannon will be challenged against the quick point guards he’ll face in the Big Ten. He’ll need to work on lateral speed and upper body strength to offset that.
Overall, I like Bohannon. He needs some development but he’s picked the right program to make that happen. And, he can flat out shoot it.
