Hlas: Iowa only FBS team to use 1 QB all season

It's kind of embarrassing he didn't already know this. I don't write about the hawks for a living and I've known about it since it was first mentioned probably half way into the season.

Iowa was the only one of 124 FBS teams to use just one quarterback all season | TheGazette

Apropo of nothing, probably, other than 123 other coaches around the country saw fit to give their No. 2's and even No. 3's even a few snaps in game situations. But I guess they didn't have James Vandenberg to give them the best chance to win, unlike Iowa.

Rewind to 2009. When Stanzi was injured and Vandy came in, many asked why Vandy hadn't gotten some snaps with the 1st team... IN PRACTICE. And Ferentz scoffed at it, saying he didn't know of many coaches that did that. In essence...it was a ridiculous question and you're all idiots.

Really, Kirk? What does the above data tell you?

What it tells me, is what we already know. You're too f***ing narrow and stubborn. It has cost us games...and likely some top recruits as well.

Many people suspected this but I'm not sure whether anyone had actually looked at the NCAA stats to see whether it was the case.

He has been an ironman. I don't remember him missing any time due to injury. This helped him become the 7th top passer in Iowa history. His determination is to be commended.

While I agree with your premise, maybe kf didn't know this stat or thinks he got away without the general public knowing. Now "it's out there".

What amazed me about JVB's season the most is that he never took a hit that put him out of the game. Not even for one play. When does this ever happen? It just makes me wonder how many other teams this happened to this season. I think this should be researched...How many teams were forced to put a backup QB in because of injury? I think this is a huge factor. So why doesn't someone look into this, especially those of you that are so hung up about one quarterback taking all the snaps.

I'd do the research but quite frankly I don't care. I've moved on.

Another amazing leap in logic!

Oh my! Iowagate! Kirk knows that he is the only coach to not use his second string qb and famously tries to hide it from the public! But, Mike Hlas breaks the story...this could be the end of KF's reign in Iowa!

You seem to be specializing in derp this week.

He was referring to Mike Hlas.

This was all over the news. In November.

Well, given our offensive attack, he wasn't out on the field for much of the game.

When you had the production that JVB had, who WOULD make a change at the quarterback position? Not to mention none of the backups weren't born with any sort of confidence, just thank god he wasn't injured: they would have been eaten alive! They need another full off-season wearing the red jersey to truly understand what the B1G in-game experience is all about.

Iowa really dodged a bullet this year.

Most of those other coachs don't make $4MM a year. If they had Capt'ns coaching skills they'd only play 1 QB as well. That's why he makes the big bucks, he's special.
