During the game last night could not help but think of Jon's post in comparing this year's squad to the elder Marble's 86/87 teams. I don't think we have won a non-conference tournament other than a Amana Classic since. Certainly not with this quality of opponents. The 86 team won the Alaskan Shootout and the 87 team won the Maui Invitational versus no other than Villanova. So let's hope history repeats itself tonight.
The intensity, pace and depth is not something i've seen since those squads. 86/87 was certainly more talented but so was all of college basketball. What I love about this year's squad is you actually look forward to the subs, every player is really fun to watch in their own way. The tournament MVP in 1987 Maui Invitational was "The Entire Iowa Team". Only time an entire team was given the MVP in the history of that tournament. Very similar to this unselfish squad.
