Thought some of you might be interested in the series between Iowa and Ohio State and how lopsided the series has been since 1921.
Iowa joined the Big 10 in 1900.
Ohio State joined the Big 10 in 1912.
Iowa's overall record against OSU is 14-46-3. Most of Iowa's success against OSU was during the 1920's and 1950's.
Iowa has beaten OSU 14 times since 1921; the two teams did not play from 1912 to 1920.
Rundown of the history:
Iowa won in 1922 -1923, the ONLY time Iowa has beaten OSU in back to back years.
Game was Tie -1924
Iowa won in 1925 and 1928; OSU won 1924, 26, 27, 29. Years missing Iowa did not play OSU.
Thus, the 1920's was one of Iowa's best periods in football in the series. Iowa won 4 games; OSU 3 games.
OSU won in 1934 and 1935, the only time during the 30's the two teams played each other. OSU won both games.
From 1935 through 1943 the two teams did not meet.
From 1944 through 1959 Iowa won four games; OSU won 7; one tie.
The 50's were perhaps Iowa's greatest years.
Iowa won in 1948, 52, 56, and 1959.
From 1960 to 1979 Iowa won 2 games; OSU 17. Many of those games were lopsided. The worst period in Iowa football.
From 1980 to 2010 Iowa has won 4 games; OSU18; One tie (1988).
From 1980 -- Iowa won 1983, 87, 91, and 2004. Even with two of Iowa's greatest coaches--Hayden Fry could only beat OSU 3 times; Kirk Ferentz has only beaten OSU once.
From 1960 to 2010, a period of 50 years, Iowa has beaten OSU six times. Eight of Iowa's wins were during the 1950's (4 wins) and the 1920's (4 wins).
During my lifetime (I was born in 1949) Iowa has beaten OSU eight times and I really didn't start paying attention to Iowa football until about 1957 or so.
So in reality, I have read about or watched Iowa beat OSU 9 times in my lifetime (62 years).
