Historical Perspective

A lot of people are in gloom and doom because of yesterday, but historically wins in the Big 10 tournament are not indicative of NCAA tournament sucess.

Let's start with 1999. This team has a lot of similarities to that team. They started the season 12-1 climbing to a #12 ranking before going 5-7 in the last 12 and losing in the first round of the NCAA tournament. They went to the sweet 16 and played #1 seed UConn to the wire.

This team still has the potential to meet or exceed what they did. Iowa has already beat a probable #2 seed twice so they can play with anyone.

In fact winning in the big 10 tournament has an inverse relationship on winning in the NCAA tournament. Since the start of the big 10 tournament Iowa is 2-0 in the round of 64 and 1-1 in the round of 32 after losing the first game of the big 10 tournament.

Following seasons when Iowa has won 1 or more games in the big 10 tournament they are 1-2 in the round of 64, and 0-1 in the round of 32.

I am not at all worried about yesterday's game hurting Iowa in the NCAA and history backs me up. Don't be in doom and gloom this team is fully capable of making a 1999 style run or better.

ClintonIAfan I think you are right. Iowa is suffering from B1G malaise. We have good athletes, but in conference we are rarely as athletic as our opponent and when well scouted that makes a difference. We also tend to lose focus when teams are shooting lights out against us. We miss that athleticism that Aaron and Gabe brought last year. At the end of games when the action intensifies athleticism is even more crucial. In the tournament we won't be as well scouted and won't play teams we've played for 3 or 4 years. Hopefully our confidence returns and this slump ends and our execution improves.

It's not that they lost in the tournament. Really, who cares. If they would have locked up the B1G regular season title, we'd all be like...meh. See you in The Dez.

It's what they've p1$$3d away over the last few weeks. They took something special and flushed it down the toilet.

They're like a bird, a hawk if you will, who realizes that OMG I'M FLYING and then panics and forgets how to flap its wings and crashes down to earth.

And we had to helplessly watch the entire pathetic spectacle.
