HI TV: PTL WEEK 1 HAWK HIGHLIGHTS

Thanks, good to see.

things that stick out:

1) jok looks like a starter to me. inside and outside game.

2) oglesby looks perfect to be Jok's back up. Outside shooter that plays very controlled and looked like his feet were under him.

3) gesell looks like he is getting his confidence back that he seemed to lose at times last yr since he was told to give the ball to marble too much.

4) Uthoff should know to go up stronger versus a shot blocker like gabe.

5) gabe looked good but was swinging his arm too much for the season on blocks...he swings that big he will get foul calls.

6) white doesn't grow playing in the ptl. He can get to the basket on all of those guys even when they play off trying to make him shoot. He can't develop as a shooter if he doesn't do it in more game like situations.

From that little teaser it sure looks like White has improved his ball handling. That was nice to see. And as far as Jok goes good lord that shot is so smooth. I like how he can get it off quick off the dribble. (not Oglesbys strong suit) Jok seems to have some explosiveness and the sky might just be the limit for him. Gessel and Uthoff looked about how you would expect them to in that setting. Glad to see MG getting shots to fall. That 18 foot pull up off the pick and roll has to be in every pgs arsenal.

Jok could be key to a great season. I also like the way he takes it to the basket, very smooth.....

His jump shot looks very difficult to defend. I pray that he is on this season.....

It looks to me with the shot he has all he has to be is open to be on... If the PGs can get him open looks especially in transition (I'll add Oglesby to this as well) That is what I don't think we could get enough of. More open court pley, take it to the hole get fouled shoot free throws and kick out for open 3s. It looks like we have the horses to fill the roles just gotta go do it.

I think jok with his size and length and quick release could very well be open even when someone is on him as he develops. He also has enough ability to get to the hole that if you try to suffocate him he can make you pay off the dribble. Which then it turns into rotating defenders and wide open lay ups for cutters or post players if he can learn the vision and passing from there. He could definitely open up a lot for this team as he compliments what others do.

That was the same thought I had.

Hopefully those highlights weren't indicative of what he was doing the whole game because that's just a waste of time.

If he's hoing to be the man on this team he's got to expand his game.

I think the Dickerson/Jok combo will give this team an entirely new look at times. As long as Dickerson is lightening quick as advertised, guys are going to be open a lot more often. No more Marble show. No more McCabe period. An aggressive and confident Woodbury and Oleseni. MG with some confidence back. I would put money down that this team will finish better than last years team. Legit top 25.

Jok/Dickerson will be in the same class, with 3 years to play. They are roommates. They met at a camp in high school and stayed in touch. They hung out on Dickerson's official visit. I expect that after some time playing together, we will see some great things from that combo. Like Dean Oliver and Ricky Davis should have been, sans Davis being an idiot.

Very wrong. They can work on deficiencies in a more game like situation at the ptl. Uthoff took 18 shots in his ptl game. None were 3s. He needs to be aggressive to the basket and work on attacking the rim with his length. Because of his length he can get a 3 at any time. This is working on a deficiency. White is a very good slasher/attacker. He isn't a good catch and shoot or pull up shooter. I think he should use the ptl to work on those aspects. And he needs to catch the ball closer to the rim so he is more of a threat to shoot. I think pretty much every player has skills they need to work on and I think the ptl is a great place to do that because of the wide open game and offensive gearing it is in.

If that's really why Gesell lost his confidence last year then I'm very glad we have Trey next year because Mike doesn't have what it takes to be a B10 pg.

I don't think I worded it right to identify why I think he lost confidence. I think mccaffery basically neutered him because when gesell started struggling with his shot he just would pull him instead of letting him find his way by finding his shot or getting to the basket or by finding others. And I believe he is actually the leader of the team and when he isn't on the court (whether he is hitting or not) we play more controlled and just overall better.

I have believed that PJ has the ability to be a legit superstar. If his explosiveness is completely back, then he'll get there.

He can get a bit more explosive through strength training but that injury takes away a certain percentage that never comes back, at least naturally.

This is correct. As I have posted elsewhere, a regular return from the surgery he had has a 12 month recovery with 85-90% of previous strength in the injured leg. He had surgery in July of 2011, so he's not recovering any more.
