Here is how Ricky Stanzi stacks up against some of the bigger names at QB, even the only "two Heisman candidates" mainstream media is taking seriously.

It kind of makes you think that just because he doesn't play for an offense that puts up 500 yds + and 50 + points each week that he doesn't get more serious consideration. I am sure in some people's minds, because he plays in the Big Ten also hinders him. However, it is funny to see that those high powered offenses are that way because of running, not their dreamy heisman QBs. Americanzi puts up the same numbers (BETTER numbers, actually) and still is considered a warm body to fill a chair as America decides between Auburn and Oregon.

I thought the QB Efficiency were in the 180's for Moore (188.3) and Stanzi (180.28). Luck is coming in at 162.5.

When you look at the top 2 in terms of Heisman race (Moore and Newton) their teams are undefeated. As a quarterback, the teams record is a reflections on your ability and leadership. If Stanzi had been able to put together two game winning drives against Arizona (sacked what, 4 times to end the game) and Wisconsin (poor clock management, his fault or not) then he would be right up there with Moore IMO. Hawks would be in the race for NC and Stanzi would be right in the race with Moore for Heisman (IMO Newton is a step ahead of everyone right now).

In '02 I thought the loss to ISU really hurt Banks' chances. If vague memory serves, he had a fumble or two late int eh second half that really hurt Iowa's chanes to comeback and win. If Iowa was unblemished due to a Banks lead comeback he may have got the hardware.

I'd love to see Ricky win, but team record practically trumps personal stats. He has a tough road to hoe. And Cam Newton's rushing numbers are insane, I think he'll win it as long as Auburn loses at most one game.

Maybe these ratings were the result of using the wrong formula? Those sound about right if an NFL QB were putting up similar numbers.

Yeah these are off a different formula. This is the passer rating. These which would be the same as they use in the NFL. The ones most typically used in college are the pass efficiency. More so based on yards per attempt and completion percentage from what I've seen.

Cosity is right on. It all has to do with Record. If Iowa is undefeated right now they would be in the top 5 and Ricky would be at the top of the list.

Stanzi would be up there if our team was undefeated. If Auburn or Oregon lose, and Iowa keeps winning, he'll keep gaining ground as long as his numbers stay up. But until then, he'll be an afterthought.

So the higher numbers are the Efficiency which is typically used in college. Rating are the lower numbers, what is typically used in the NFL.

We all know the Heisman is more of a popularity contest than the actual talent contest. How often does a guy from a 500 or lower team ever get consideration, even if he is the best player in the nation?

Stanzi is on pace for a great season, he has cut down his mistakes that he was known for last year. A more realistic goal is first team all Big 10

Rick plays against some of the best competition in the country. I wonder where Kellen Moore's numbers would be if he played in a real conference.

As many before have said, the special teams blunders at Arizona and vs Wisconsin are the reasons Ricky is not at the top of the list. Oh, and cuz he plays at Iowa.

you forgot to add in Cam Newton's rushing yards which makes him the leading candidate

I think Stanzi has a shot at making it to New York, but he will have to have some HUGE games to win it

Most lists are starting to include Stanzi anywhere between 5-10 on their rankings. The next ew weeks will determine if he satays there, and OSU will determine if he moves up...
